I've already mentioned that I learned a few Zelda songs by ear, and for my birthday, my parents bought me the FFVI piano solo book, I've just started digging into it: I can play Shadow's theme, and I'm working on the FF6 version of the standard FF prelude (with the c major a minor runs. Lots of fun to play on a piano doing the whole keyboard.). I'm trying to get the aflat major7 and bflat major7 runs down, but the fingerings are a bit odd - I'll probably have it by tonight.

But it's funny, I've been playing Moonlight and George Winston's Variations on the Kanon so much that I instinctively reach too far and botch first inversion major chords sometimes. Too many octaves and octave add 10s...

Also, my favorite piano run is the a 7 diminished, featured in the Zelda one dungeon and Moonlight. Makes a really keen segue. It's all about the segue...

I remember seeing a band do the various Mario songs in the form of The Living End.
The Green Knight, SimeSublime the Puffinesque, liker of chips and hunter of gnomes.

The living end do a whole bunch of weird stuff like that. Chris Cheney sticks riffs from various places into solos and other shit when they play live. (See the bonus dvd with modern artillery with the flinstones). Didn't system of a down do some zelda thing? I'm not sure, I hate system of a down.

My mate in year 12 (final year high school) used some piece of music from final fantasy in his final piano moderation. He did it really well because he liked it so much, but he said he felt heaps stupid doing it. All the other kids had been doing bach, beethoven, etc etc, and he has to tell the moderator it's a piece from final fantasy.

Shut up, or System of a Down will eat your children and your dog.

Seriously, I like System of a Down, they are one of the few newer bands I don't hate with all of my soul that isn't being used to hate something else.

He should be proud. Nobuo Uematsu is a badass composer. Sure, anybody can play classical, it takes a true musician to play video game music and make it sound good. If the guy is embarresed to say it's from a videogame, just have him tell people it's Uematsu, Japanese composer.

There's a group called the Minibosses that does 8-bit covers exclusively Which isn't actually all that hard in theory, since there are only four channels in NES sound, two leads, a bass, and precussion, sets up perfect for a standard rock band conversion.

I'd like to add that the Zelda song is not done by System of a Down, but by Rabbit Joint, a band several members of System of a Down were in.
OH!

I've god an mp3 of a band covering the Zelda theme...
file says it's nine inch nails...

also... i don't know if there are any shared members...
but one of my favorite bands thought industry released an album in 1993 called Mods Carve the Pig: Assassins, Toads, and God's Flesh.

Listen to it...
and you'll see that SOAD ripped off their sound completeley...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

but getting back to the topic...

often when i pick up the guitar, i like to to play the theme from original doom, ... well by theme i think i mean the reapeated riff of one of the levels...

also the 'killing game show' from the old Amiga...
(the originators of PC gamming)...

This all reminds me of something I just found out yesterday. Last week, when we (the marching band) were doing a special performance of this year's halftime shows in the auditorium, one guy in the pit (the only guy, actually) started playing the Mario theme while we were right in the middle of playing the theme to Batman. He said he got bored with it, and then spent the rest of the song trying to figure out how to make the underground music fit in time with what he was supposed to be playing.

This is even funnier than it would normally be because that performance was being recorded for a CD. biggrin.gif

His reaction: “(*snicker*) Whoops.”
Check out my crappy drawings!

Chyld is an ignorant slut.
