Man Shoots Wife, Mistakes Her for Monkey
Wed Sep 22, 2004 08:44 AM ET

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - A Malaysian man shot and killed his wife after he mistook her for a monkey picking fruit in a tree behind their house, the New Straits Times said on Wednesday.

The man, 70, is being held by police for causing death through recklessness after he fired a shotgun at what he thought was a monkey in a mangosteen tree on Monday, the newspaper said.

His wife, 68, had used a ladder to climb into the tree and was picking the tropical fruit when she was shot. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, the paper said. The couple lived in central Malaysia and had raised 13 children.

I guess if my wife looked like a monkey, I wouldn't want her around very much either, but there really are more civil ways...

Couldn't he just send her to the monkey jail like all the others? I mean, sure, she may have thrown bricks at the local children, but people, shooting your wife isnt the best way to make her stop.

This raises the question: Why would you want to shoot a monkey picking fruit?

And if you wanted to shoot a monkey in your fruit tree why would you use a shot gun, likely damaging monket and tree and fruit?

Methinks this is yet another mystery that involves a covered up act of violence between al old man and his wife.

That's horrible. Cats, raccoons, and trees all existed long before you did. Leave them alone and get your fruit from the grocery store like eveyone else.

I don't think it's that cruel to shake a few leaves at feral animals who eat our fruit, tear up our trash cans and fight with the neighbors cats with a pellt gun. I could be like the guy down the street and hang the carcass on the fence.

Okay, trees yeah sure, but cats and racoons? I mean the cats and racoons as species existed before reiner as a single human, but those specific cats and racoons were very likely much younger than reiner. I don't honestly know about which came first humans, cats or racoons as species but I'll bet it was relatively close together in the grand scheme of things. Therefore reiner can shoot cats and racoons as long as he manages to avoid damaging the trees they are in.

Okay, you know what? Rein, when we're living together, I'm going to buy myself junk food. I'll put it in the cabinet, and if I catch you eating my cookies, I'm going to shoot you with a pellet gun to "scare you off." You get your own goddamn cookies, you hear me? dry.gif

Naturally, I'll be expecting you to film this, should it ever happen.
