Reviews For Prequels, for the DVDs, whatever...

I'd like to start with this review I read last night on Episode II. The author wrote something I disagreed with - that Episode II was better than Return of the Jedi. But other than that, he was on the mark. I like this review because it is just so damn funny (because it's true) - http://www.angelfire.../oc/clones.html

Pretty good review though. Oh and I have not watched ESB and ROTJ back-to-back yet, I will soon, not to worry.

I don't care about the Ewoks.
Leia = Luke's sister, and the resolution of the Vader business, + Death Star II are what I don't like about JEDI. Simplistic conclusion not worthy of the epic setup offered by EMPIRE.

But the Ewoks DID annoy the living hell out of me as did goldenrod Threepio on Endor, being loud and stupid... and all the slapstick stuff.
However, I did say earlier that I disagreed with the author's assessment that Return of the Jedi was a lesser film than Episode II. I think it's high art compared to that film. But I also think Zoolander is high art compared to that film... so it's not exactly praise either. No, gentlemen - Zoolander sucks. However, I will say that Return of the Jedi had roughly 35 minutes of film that I thought was worthy of the name Star Wars - which is 35 more than either Episode I or Episode II had.
Now to the reviews. I liked yours, Give Me The Originals Dammit.
The director should be bundled up with the writer and the producer and all three should be severely beaten until they promise never to do anything like this again. What was that? All three people are George Lucas? Fuck that. Just kill the bastard.
That was just beautiful.
Jariten, I admire the undying devotion you give to your cause. The review you linked was fairly good. It didn't sway my opinion... but it was certainly on the mark that Episode II was better than Episode I. The article wasn't strong praise but it did suggest that maybe it's not as bad as most of us feel it is.
I don't feel any different about it though... but it was a nice try. Kudos for the effort.

This is about the third page of a thread that had nothing to do with Return of the Jedi... but here it really started. The biggest debate between the Return of the Jedi lovers and haters on the forum. It ended up being a hell of a long thread. Chefelf eventually locked it before the nuclear war broke out. But if you look through that thread, Garth Vader, you may find our reasons for hating that film.

Episode I: Average: 62% Cream of the Crop: 39%
Episode II: Average: 64% Cream of the Crop: 41%
Episode IV: Average: 93% Cream of the Crop: 85%
Episode V: Average: 98% Cream of the Crop: 91%
Episode VI: Average: 80% Cream of the Crop: 64%
I can't help but agree with popular opinion, or rather Cream of the Crop opinion. Empire the best in the series, closely followed by A New Hope. Jedi is a bit of a let-down and the prequels are nowhere near the OT. They actually got it right!

They have a rating of "Fresh"! Yippeeee! The Cream of the Crop reviews are the serious ones. There are quite a few rabid fanboys writing reviews bringing the average up. Also, please notice that the percentile difference between the total average and CotC are substantially higher for the PT than the OT. What does that tell you? Let me explain, the Cream of the Crop are the more experienced reviewers who know when to discriminate.
This can of course be debated, however you cannot contest this Jariten: The OT is clearly the superior trilogy, no matter if it's measured by the total of all reviews or just CotC ones.

But I know that nothing will change your opinion on the matter. It reminds me of certain Black Knight of Monty Python fame, the very same stubborn refusal to accept reality...
"Your arm is off!"
"No, it isn't, 'tis but a scratch." or rather "That's a matter of opinion."
