I saw this on ebay and I was flabbergasted.

It is apparently called the "Darth Puma" Starwars poster and was released in Russia. I wonder, do other countries produce crazy starwars material like this? And are those lightsabers coming out of his head?

Go to Google and click on Image and then search for Star Wars posters....

You will see all sorts of weird crazy foreign posters... that seem to completely miss the point of all the movies.

One strange one I saw was for Return of the Jedi. It was Darth Vader's head exploding. I think it was from Germany.

EDIT

- However, these days. It is very standardised. I've lived in Japan and now I live in Korea and the video, DVD covers there were exactly the same as their western counterparts... only Japanese ones had the titles written in Katakana.

Lord of the Rings becomes Rodu o se Ringu.

Star Wars would most likely be Su-ta-wa wa-ru-se. Or something like that.

yeah thats right.

SW was pretty much just SW in japan expect everything instantly looks cooler because its in japanese (to me at least). in a little side note, i remember watching SW dubbed in japanese and it seemed like a differennt film. Just small things like vocal inflections in different places can really change a scene. Best of all, the fireplace scene actually became quite good- the dialogue was much better for one thing.

Sorry the picture is kind of big. anyway something weird I just noticed and didnt know before. The Japanese in red at the bottom (underneath 'Star Wars') says-

Jedi no fukushu

which means

revenge of the Jedi

After a good talking-to by Steven Spielberg, George Lucas put a halt on this star wars film...the preview audience wanted to run out immediately and start killing jews...

Sorry, Hannibal, but that's not really funny. Who were you poking fun at? All of us or what?

As it happens, I know Russian enough to read the following:
"Zwiezdnyje Voyny" (literal translation "Star Wars")
Epizod II (no need of translation, is there?)
Ataka Klonov (ditto)

In Polish this would read as follows:

Gwiezdne Wojny
Epizod II
Atak Klonów

May look ridiculous to you, but that's how it is.
For those who are further interested:

"Imperium kontratakuje"
"Powrót Jedi"
"Mroczne Widmo"
"Atak Klonów"

And in the time of OT we didn't have any posters. I remember when SE was released, the posters looked fairly standard, though.

You can tell Anakin is evil in that poster because he apparently killed the lower half od Padme's shirt in a fit of rage...

"It's holding me back!"

"Holding you back from what?"

"Staring at you creepily, of course."

The translation thing, hey it happens.

I mean, Godzilla isn't really supposed to be "Godzilla", at least I don't think it's really supposed to be called that. I believe the proper Japanese name for the fire breathing mutant dinosaur we all know and love was "Gojira" (even though "Godzilla VS Biollante" features the "Godzilla 1985" memorial lounge).

Dialogue gets changed around when transporting stuff overseas. It's a rule of life.

Is Hannibal pestering our happy forum again? I thought he'd gone away.

Hey everybody. Read carefully.

Use the IGNORE USER function on him. Click on his username and then you'll see the option to ignore him. Click on it and that will bring you to another page, which is your list of your ignored users. Then hit okay and he will pester you no more.

Anyway, I think this is quite a pleasant little thread.

You cannot be serious, Lord Aquaman. No way
Star Wars
Episode II The Attack of the Clones
can be translated into Russian and back into English the way Hannibal did it. It must have been meant as a joke, the one I do not really find funny.

Godzilla is about missing one letter not deliberately twisting the sense, like the Hannibal translation about "Cloned Dark Skinned People Attack". Besides, the thing about ""Starring this child exploitation slut"
is not even there, if you reasonably count the number of sentences.

But you see, that is the point of knowing foreign languages. You cannot be duped by people who twist words for their own doubtful pleasure.
