curious about your reasons several reasons don't make sense

I have only read the first twenty reasons for hating star wars episode one. First, I remember you saying that the people need to realize that they are not on the plant Earth. Well, one of your reasons was about the planet core of Naboo was dangerous and they should not have gone through it. If you think logically, every planet in star wars has different characteristics. So the core of Naboo may be able to be traveled through. Second, you said that a fish would not eat metal. Have you ever watched sharks, or some type of documentary on them. Sharks have been known to eat liscense plates, pieces of boats, and water cages. Also, fish will usually attack anything moving that is smaller than them if they are hungry. I am actually a very big star wars fan. I will actually agree with you that some of your reasons are very true. I thought this episode wasn't the best one they have done. I don't know if you have stated this in your site, but it actually seemed that they had better weapons and stuff in the first episode that in the later ones. However, I think you did not really think through on some of your reasons because when you stop and think about it, some of them don't make sense. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone by posting this but this is how I feel. I would really like to know everyone else's opinion, good or bad.

Well, one of your reasons was about the planet core of Naboo was dangerous and they should not have gone through it. If you think logically, every planet in star wars has different characteristics. So the core of Naboo may be able to be traveled through.

I am just going to address this point because it is the only one I can talk about with a little bit of knowledge-

I believe that the Gungan said the core was dangerous. I haven't watched episode one recently, though, so I don't really remember. Secondly, cores of planets are dangerous. Not just earth, but every one in our solar system would not be very easy to travel through. I know, I know, they are in a different solar system, but here are my reasons for the core trip to be ridiculous-

Naboo's temperature on the surface seems to resemble earth's. Unless they are very close to the sun and have an enourmously powerful ozone layer to protect themselves from UV rays, their core would have to be extremely hot. Ours is about 8000 degrees (about the temp of the surface of the sun). Secondly, I don't think planets' cores can be made of hollow material. The pressure in the middle of a planet is enourmous-the sub probably should have been crushed anyway if it were not burned up.

Anyway, that was my very random thought process, I hope it made even a little bit of sense.

You are right and wrong about the fish comment

right about how fish will go after anything smaller and moving (although some of the larger fish will attack even larger fish)

however hunger has very little to do with it (as I have seen the same damn trout steal my bait for 4 hours straight) its a matter of it not just moving but how it is moving and its appearence for instance boats, surfers etc etc give off an appearence of seals, license plates cause of there shape and weight don't sink straight all the time it will kinda swirl a tad in the water giving the impression of a fish of sorts and they also go after shiny and lighted objects

and with the vehicle they were in to me they looked like on of my flat spinner lures minus the hooks and also kinda like a squid hence why the fish attacked them

just a thought to maybe help your arguement

Hey,

I like David Brin's comment on this. He pointed out that it wasn't really fair to make a big deal about how the planet's core was dangerous (he didn't have a problem imagining their ship might be capable of handling the pressure and the heat, and frankly, given that that this is sci-fi, neither do I). But it's not fair to make a big deal about the danger and then just skip the whole bit where they go through the planet's core! Like, it's dangerous! SHOW IT TO US!

Mike.

This is very interresting. You have brought out many things that I have not considered. However, there is one thing that I really do not agree with. I have actually been waiting to mention this one. There is an encyclopedia on star wars that my step-brother has. In it, it tells you about all the different things in the movies. One of the things that was mentioned was the breathing apparatus that the jedi used in the beginning of episode one. The thing they used was standard equipment and was kept on their belts, the same one that holds their lightsaber. Please continue to reply, I am really enjoying this. You are teaching me things that I have not known before I replied.

WOW! I didn't think I would get so many replies to my post. I guess I didn't know much about what I was talking about. I had no idea there was an encyclopedia out. Where can I get one? I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me.

our world has changed so much since AOTC (ahem) came out, what with queer eye, gay bishop et al.

Personally, I don't think the world is a better place. don't feel I'm gay bashing.

Do you think lucas will bring this new "every show has to appease the gay market" mentality to the series? how? or why not?

Can I just say that I read your reasons for hating the movie and agreed with them all. I would also like to add a few things of my own that ticked me off.

1] CGI - its crap, looks badly done and is totally out of synch with the original three

2] Technology - seems to have advanced quite well as we head back in time. Makes me think that it would have been ace to be a caveman, what with the insta-travel, matter transporters and whatnot

3] Americanization - I know no other term for this, but clearly GL is pamdering to his audience, making Star Wars 'America in space'.

4] That prosthetic - quality that, big and gold and all...

5] Lack of a decent villain - Phantom menace had Darth maul and one good scene. Attack of the green ninja midget doesn't even have a saving grace.

6] The weird bit with the bots fighting in the colliseum - I mean, what the hell was that?

7] The clones - look straight out of an intro to a computer game

8] Portman - looks great, acts like a cadaver

9] Anakin - gah!

10] Yoda - no, he shouldn't have whipped out his sabre and had a go. I walked out the cinema at that point

11] Finally, my biggest gripe is, to reiterate CGI - why? Models and puppets looked great in the original. Why plaster in rubbish-looking cgi?

I'm not gonna go into plot and character, or I'll never get home..

  • OMG, Han, we just have to do something about that outfit of yours. Don't you see that the back and white don't make your face stand out?
  • Oh, Luke, you'll have to do something with that hair. How un-butch!
  • My dear, Amidala. The way you speak in front of an audience is so unnatural. Let me hook you up with some theater friends of mine.
  • Jar Jar, What's with a Naboo Gungan-trash accent? I know a therapist who can help you with that.
  • Obi-Wan. Ahh! That beard. It makes you look like a cave man. That’s how your ancestor’s in Scotland looked. Step into the 123rd century. Really! This is Coruscant, not backwards Tatoo-eeene.
  • And Palpatine, what’s will all the oppression? Let my people go!
I’m queer and happy to see fags (yes, I consider myself a fag) get air play on TV, but I get sick of all the gay shows playing all the time. Hate to admit it, but sometimes I just want to see some straight programming on TV.

Oh, and to answer the question. GL has already created a product that "appeases" the gay market. He gave us Hayden's nipple and a wet dream (not shown), didn't he? And inside scoop is that we're gonna get to see more of Hayden in EP 3.

Yeah, I know. TMI. But what's with all those lightsabers?

THANKYOU! THANKYOU! THANKYOU! THANKYOU! THANKYOU! THANKYOU!

i've been yelling that in pubs since PM came out.
speaking of comming out...

njamilla: "He gave us Hayden's nipple and a wet dream (not shown), didn't he? And inside scoop is that we're gonna get to see more of Hayden in EP 3."

yeah, but the dude was dreaming about his mother! my friends and i refer to that as the jerk-off scene ('cause that's what it looks like). we all laughed at the cinema (infact everyone did)

"oh,oh, oooh, no, ahhh"

next morning miss A says: "i heard you last night"
(we all laugh)
Annie says: "i was dreaming about my mother"
(the whole cinema went "eeeiw")

we wern't being immature, THAT'S WHAT THE SCENE LOOKS LIKE!!!
that's what happens when a narrow minded, inflexible, movie maker makes a mistake...

Yeah, it was pretty tough to watch that scene and not think it was just a really creepy sexual thing. That scene could have used with a redo or, better yet, omission.
