SPIDER-MAN INDIA
SPIDER-MAN EXTENDS FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD TO STREETS OF BOMBAY!

Bangalore, India (June, 2004)— Marvel Enterprises, Inc. & Gotham Entertainment Group –Indian publishing licensee of Marvel Comics and the leading publisher of international comic magazines in South Asia – announces the launch of Spider-Man India.

Spider-Man India interweaves the local customs, culture and mystery of modern India, with an eye to making Spider-Man’s mythology more relevant to this particular audience. Readers of this series will not see the familiar Peter Parker of Queens under the classic Spider-Man mask, but rather a new hero – a young, Indian boy named Pavitr Prabhakar. As Spider-Man, Pavitr leaps around rickshaws and scooters in Indian streets, while swinging from monuments such as the Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal.

Mumbai’s (Bombay’s) first web-swinging Super Hero will be joined by a reinterpretation of the classic Spider-Man villain, the Green Goblin -- reinvented as a Rakshasa, an Indian mythological demon.

“We feel this is one of the most exciting and unique projects in comic history,” said Gotham Entertainment Group CEO Sharad Devarajan. “Unlike traditional translations of American comics, Spider-Man India will become the first-ever ‘transcreation,’ where we reinvent the origin of a Western property like Spider-Man so that he is an Indian boy in Mumbai and dealing with local problems and challenges.”

I can't tell if it's for real or not just yet. I also don't care, because it kicks ass either way! In an offensive and kinda dumb way.

This is like giving Steve Irwin a cockney accent and stupid catchphrases for American audiences.

Think about every other time something cool was retooled for a different audience, it's always crap.

Remarkably, I achieved this without the aid of drugs, and I would be rather proud of myself if I could only remember where I left my pants.

I enjoy reading and sleeping, and i think dairy products are wonderful. My ultimate goal in life is to live in a house made entirely of fudge, while making lots of money from my awful attempts at writing. My dream is to explore the the whole world and see every bit of it, exept for South Africa beacuse I'm scared of tapeworms.....

I think that if they're reinventing the comic that much, they should just start a new one. They would have more room for originality and not be limited by how people already perceive Spider-Man.
Head Gunner for the Royal Sloop Crimson Steel, Queen of the Dead, Instigator of Chaos and Confusion, Knight of the Grand Recursive Order of the Lambda Calculus, and also The Non.

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....
....We'd be lying though.

I'm with you, Emu. I don't understand when people change so many elements of something and just keep the same name? What point is that? I guess the money still goes to the original creators/publishers, etc. Who knows?

True, I just was having a hard time thinking of something un-American being Americanized.

I generally go with the fact that there are McDonald's stores within 100 metres of one another in most cities world wide tongue.gif
