Chef,

I think most folks here appreciate the Simpsons and their contribution to society. I'd quoted Marge "It's not going to happen" recently, and was trying to recall where it came from. The show throws things from every direction so lots of the best bits are buried in our conciousness. Thought it would be topic-worthy at least, if anyone cares to reply with favorite moments.

Homer is accused of female harrassment by a baby-sitter, and he moans "nothing ever blows over for me." Then the news 'copter's updraft blows Homer's car over. Then he drifts off on how much life would be better: "Under the Sea..." and there's a little interlude that roasts the disney toon. Marge breaks Homer of his spell by saying "Under the Sea. That's your answer to everything. It's not going to happen!" (or words to that affect.)

I find myself quoting the Simpsons every few weeks. At its best, it's one of the greatest comedy series ever. However, it seems to have gone sharply downhill over the last few seasons. sad.gif

My favourite moment ever is probably the one where they're watching a 'McBain' movie with him flying over some distant country. His plane comes under attack and he calls out, "McBain to base... Ve are under attack by Commie-Nazis." Then you see the enemy plane with its logo of a swastika combined with a hammer-and-sickle...

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

I spent all last week yelling "Forwards never backwards, Sideways never forwards and always twirling, twirling, twirling" whenever I got bored and wanted to move on. Thanks to either Kang or Kodus for that one.

Oh, the Simpsons. I am a big fan of the first 8-10 seasons, not really sure when it jumped the shark.

My favorite line may be:

Wiggum: Where's your God now, Flanders?

Well, I've been taping the show since 1990, so I guess I'm biased. Yeah, it's gone downhill proportionally. and one season did actually end with a pic of Homer jumping a shark on water skis. but I'm still loyal to it. the Evita ep was great, and the last one of the season was chock full of stuff. I'm sorry I can't recall what it was about rolleyes.gif

family guy is good, no doubt.

Oh yeah. I sorta forget that the first season was a little iffy at times.

Yeah, that's a good show. The best part is that it takes place right outside of This Glorious City, home of the Redcloud family!! smile.gif

(NOTE: The building you see in the background when you see the outside of their house is actually the building where my cousin/roommate works. Weird.)

I also love saying: Clin-Ton!

You guys could ask Chefelf to make you a Television Show Forum - then you could discuss such things as -

- The great moments of the Simpsons.

- How America is getting jiffed and never experience the original British
comedy "Coupling", having to settle for a toned down American version.

- South Park (the good episodes, not the appalingly awful ones)

- The decline of Buffy and Angel, then cheer yourselves up by talking about the
good old days back when the writing was fresh and the shows were entertaining.

- oh, and while you're at it, you could start a Friends hate thread to weed out any idiots on the forum who enjoyed that stupid show.

Lionel Hutz: "That's why you're the judge, and I'm the law....talking....guy."
Judge: "The lawyer?"
Hutz: "Rrrright..."

Lisa: "Did you know that the Chinese use the same word for 'crisis' that they use for 'opportunity'?"
Homer: "Yes! CRISITUNITY!"

Moe: "Stupid science, what has science ever done for us? TV off. *TV shuts off""
Moe (same episode): "Take that! And that! And oh...oh...I'm paralyzed. I just hope medical science can cure me."

Lisa: "Well I hope you know that you're sponsoring a holiday that celebrates the life of a murderous pirate!"
LJS Reps: "A pirate!? Well that's hardly the image we want for Long John Silver's!"

Etc.
