A Chinese Ghost Story was made back in 1987, essentially a fairy tale with lots of flamboyant lighting and over the top Hong Kong wire work.

It is the story of a tax collector who meets and falls madly in love (or is it lust?) with a beautiful mystery woman, who, unfortunately for him, turns out to be a ghost who is bound to this evil, pimp like demon who uses similarly beautiful ghosts of snaring men and sucking out their life force with a massive tongue. The stakes are thrown up a notch when our hero finds out that his beautiful ghost is bound in unholy marriage to a dark lord from Hell (or some other similar dark region of the after life), thus prompting him to try and free her with the help of a standard-issue swordsman.

A friend of mine gave me a copy of this once and I thought it was kind of neat, so I figured I'd ask around to see if anyone had heard of it.

they rock!!!

and they bring up an interesting thing... a friend and i were discussing the other day.
CGS2 i think it is, is the closest a kung-fu film has ever come to even partial nudity (the bath scene).

it's funny that in all the years of kung fu films from china and hong kong, and that they do so many a year... that not once has it occured to any one to allow even a flash of anything.

don't get me wrong, they don't need it... you can't grab my attention anymore than a kung-fu film will do... but every other country does.
action films from western countries always sneak in a little, at least 2 ouyt of every 3 has a bit... europen action films are more like pornos with the odd fight... but china? no...

i wonder why that is... maybe they just no how to right a descent story without resorting to cheap tactics...

hmmmm... boob for thought.

I remember seeing a film by a similar title whilst in primary school which pretty much was pornography. It involved three ghosts given mortal bodies, on the premise that they stay pure or somesuch. So the demon that owns them takes on mortal form to seduce them, hence breaking their oaths and sending them back to his service. Take into account that I last saw this movie when I was 11, so plot details may change. But from memory, he sleeps with all three of the sisters, and the two younger ones also have a lesbian scene. There is no Kung Fu.

sure, they make soft core porn... but i'm talking about the western tradition of dropping the odd bit of flesh into an action flick...
