I would've preferred "birth/rise of the empire", revenge of the sith is to similar to return of the jedi. Least it's not as bad as "attack of the clones".

Wait, I'm pretty sure the first Star Wars Movie is indeed titled A NEW HOPE. Or is that not what you meant, Civilian?

I think he means that originally there was no episode title of "A New Hope".

In 1980 when Star Wars was re-released prior to ESB coming out, they had added in the whole "Episode IV: A New Hope" thing. It didn't exist before that.

So Lucas has always been up to these tricks. It's not as recent as some people would like to think.

Yes, and in that day word from Lucas was there were three trilogies.

Interestingly enough, on the 1995 box set of videos, each individual slipcase has the words "Star Wars" along with the name of the episode. for ANH, they emphasized it a little differently in font and size:

a new hope
STAR WARS

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
star wars

RETURN OF THE JEDI

Good to have that cleared up.

Yeah, I had always heard there were three trilogies. Which just seems like quite a lot if you ask me.

Something that Lucas now denies he ever said. Yeah, right. Name one person between the ages of 20 and 30 that doesn't remember salivating over the idea of two more trilogies as a kid.

Lucas also denies having ever called the third one REVENGE OF THE JEDI. Says that it was a ruse title, and that there were several bogus titles created to throw off the press, and, er, ... .... reduce publicity, or ... something.

Anyway, when asked what other titles they'd come up with, he offered the following list:

BLUE HARVEST.

er... that is all.

This interview is over! Get off my property!

(Shouting across the fence)

Wasn't BLUE HARVEST the bogus name used for Empire when filming, at least in Norway?

I remember exactly!!!

that weak ass lier!!!!

the full preview on TV had 'Revenge Of The Jedi' in the SW logo frame. FULL SCREEN (it was one of the biggest moments of my childhood)

I moove for a vote of no confidence on that one!!!

-------------------------------------------

also the OT titles flowed, we have a new hope, but the empire strikes back, but not to worry, we can count on the return of the jedi.

with a stretch you can even say the PT ones do... but not as a hexigy.

revenge of the sith is not damming enough to warrant a new hope...
CONQUEST OF THE SITH puts it in better perspective.
the sith are not going to get revenge in this film... they are taking over the freaking galaxy... they are establishing dominion, not taking out a diplomat with a sniper rifle at a public event.

how about some god damn granduer in these titles, huh?
the phantom menace
(or maybe THE NEW SHADOW)
attack of the clones
(or possibly THE CLONE WAR) - this would invole a better story for the title to work obviously
revenge of the sith
(maybe THE EMPIRE BORN... or CONQUEST OF THE EMPIRE or THE NEW POWER or RULE OF DARKNESS... or DARK EMPIRE... I don't know)

but "sith" is not relevent...
the empire was not all sith... it was 2 sith, a handfull of semi sith in red, and a shitload of military types. The Empire was a great military force and any 'sith' involvement was not really of historical importance outside our interest in the theme involving some key characters...

so it should have a more historical sounding title...

If I were in that universe and able to use the Force, I'd have to start my own faction. Screw the Jedi and the Sith... I shall be the first... Umbra... or something...

What you should be is the first Umbro, and start a dynasty devoted to the wearing of silky checkered soccer shorts ...

Why should I waste my force powers by using persuasion to make people wear soccer shorts? I'd be the faction for the people who think that the Jedi are too uptight, and the Sith too mean. We need a happy medium. Although, that would be an interesting corporate scheme... We could do a subliminal messaging thing too...
Jen, I guess I owe you some stock options once we take off.

I'm between Chef and Mike on this one. It's certainly the best title of the prequels so far, but the fans guessed it like 3 years ago. I would've liked for it to be more original. Still, it's certainly better than Attack of the Clones, and it is nice that it reminds us of Return of the Jedi (if only a bit too obviously). The movie will still most likely disappoint, but yeah, the title's not going to be part of the reason why this time.

I agree. The title, while it is a pretty inaccurate description of what will transpire in the film (ie - the rise of the Empire) still sounds good... which is a HELL of a lot better than anything else that has come out of this dull and pointless trilogy.
