Gah! Dance Dance Revolution, of course. That big ole arcade machine which always has two people flipping out on it. Big pad with arrows on it, you have to follow the steps on screen, goes in beat with the music...
we have that in a major arcade in the sydney CBD entertainment area.
only japanesse people go near it. and they are always on it.

DDR is for degenerate freaks. I hate that game. It's games like that which have kept me from the Arcade scene. I use to be a big fan of After Burner and TMNT 4 player games (also golden axe). Oh wait Xmen and the simpsons 4 player action side scrolls kicked butt too.
The people who play DDR are always the same. Asian males with pink hair, brand name clothes, and shiney silver cellphones, pocket computers, MP3 PLAYERS, and keys to a *suped* up prelude.
Ok, maybe just in Vancouver.
* Cheap body kit and neon lights.

In Providence, a pretty wide array of people play DDR, at least to the best of my knowledge. I know people of varying ethnicities who really like the game.
I would imagine the number of Asian people who play has something to do with the fact that game originated in (I think) Japan, and was really popular there before coming to America. So, it follows that people who are connected to Japanese culture would be really into the game.

Don't bash something just because you don't like to do it yourself. I don't play DDR, but I don't think my latino friends (not Asian! ~gasp~) are dumb for playing it.

Yeah, I'd say that's just in Vancouver, Jordan. Considering the fact that I used to play it a bit, and none of the people I know who enjoy it are even close to being of Asian descent, I'd say you're generalising a bit there. The only DDR players that I know are female, white, and don't drive. Go figure.

The only person I've ever seen playing it was a chubby little white kid who looked to be about twelve or thirteen, and he was pretty damn good at it!

Jordan's right about arcades in Vancouver. They are wall to wall dance games and lame FPS. in fact. PC games overwhelmed arcade games long enough ago that I cant't recall the last game I was willing to drop money on. I used to play the linked FPS WAR, but only becasue I could fo it for free.
One other DDR apsect I find amusing is something an old girfriend of mine used to call "Japanese date;" this is where a group of guys show up at the arcade and play video games for hours, and their girlfriends stand around bored, occasionally taking a break to take pictures of one another in the sticker booths. My friend would use the expression whenever she was in danger of being a tag-along on any venture: "you go ahead; I'll play Japanese girlfriend."
God, I loved her.
