I'm running a series of polls to see what the general consensus is what SW fans expected from the prequels.

Oh, crap... I forgot to put in age 12-15

In my own vague conception of the Prequels he would have been about 18 years old at the start, when Obi-Wan 'discovered' him. Obi would be considerably older, perhaps in his early 40s.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

And the script begins to take shape...
"Anakin is an extremely force-sensitive 18-year old orphan discovered by Obi-Wan (not by counting his f**king midichlorians I might add) after having crash landed with the queen of Alderaan on a dark and dangerous planet (Nar Shadaa?). Due to growing up in one of the galaxys most horrid hives of scum and villainy Anakins fear is strong. He walks a fine line between light and darkness as Obi-Wan against better judgment starts to teach him the ways of the force." Roughly 30 seconds. Ha!!! Beat that George! biggrin.gif

I always envisioned Anakin around the age of 14 or 15 and Amidala around 17-18 when we first met them. Making him 8 was mistake #1, in a long-ass list of issues.

Definitely 18-20. Old enough to make a decision to "follow Obi-Wan on some damn idealistic crusade". Much better to start with Anakin around that age, then you can start the character development right from the beginning, and keep it consistent. That way you don't have to jump from nice but annoying kid to whiny, creepy jerk between movies and wonder "what the hell happened to him in the EU to make him such an ass?"

I might go with him being 15-17. That's about the age that boys start becoming idealistic.

Any older than 19 just seems too old for training to me.

I agree, too, that Obi-Wan should've been in early 40's, certainly not older than that.

I think most everyone thought he'd be 20ish. It never occured to me he'd be 8 until I started hearing things about TPM. That should have been my first warning.

18-20, no debate. I always thought he'd be an older teenager when I watched the movies all those years back. Finding him as a kid was kinda weird... it makes me wonder just what George was thinking... and how he became a major pain in the ass in Episode II

I always thought that Obi had taught Ani, cause he was in the clone war and cut from his chain of command (the council/counsel), and decided it would be alright to train him... they were friends, so i figured there would be no more than a ten to fifteen year gap.

it was just a cheap sell out to make him a fucking child!

I've already said this in another post, but I will reiterate

Anakin should have been 19

Anakin should have come from the streets

Anakin's mother was not needed in story, she should have been killed....by Anakins father.

Anakin should not have been so stable in TPM

Anakin should have been a real bad ass, with a loveable side to him like any well written protagonist should.

Amidala should have loved him, but also feared him

Anakin should have gone against the jedi code and had sex with Amidala behind a bush or curtain. After the romp, Amidala should have realized she does not really love him, and tells him.-------that should have been a big factor in the Anakin goes crazy plotline

That's a lot of should of's, Jordan. Not sure if you SHOULD be so liberal when using 'should of' for lame ideas like the ones you provided. They're not as bad as George Lucas' ideas but then again, having Anakin as a wooden puppet who turned to the dark side as part of a deal to become a real boy is not as bad as George Lucas' ideas either - but that doesn't make it a good idea.

Real boy? What are you a moron? At least we can relate to something real, not a fake forced impossible love affair like the one Lucas delivered.

Next time, let's hear some constructive criticism. What do you have to say about it guest? Let's all hear what you think should have been done.

Thanks Barend, I liked my idea too. The story needed a love interest as well as a broken friendship. How do you play with those two constants?

Make them grossly unrealistic and bland or juice it up with plot that people can relate too.

He should have been a real boy....
that fckr was so bloody wooden, probably not his own fault, but still...

Obi wan is Japetto
Anikan is pinoccio
Palpatine is the fairy godmother

it's all falling into place.
