Star Wars Original Trilogy DVD Release Some disappointing news...

Anyway, I was reading EW this week and they had a little blurb about the OT coming out on DVD. They said the same thing, that is was going to be the special edition, but they also said that Lucas was going to rename "A New Hope" so that it would make more sense with the prequels and whatnot. Sorry I don't have the exact quote, I don't have the EW with me. Has anyone heard anything to confirm or deny this?

"The four disc Star Wars DVD set will comprise the 1997 Special Edition versions (now on VHS), and will rename the original 1977 Star Wars:Episode IV-A New Hope. After all, the latest films are prequels."
-Noah Robischon
After all of the stupid things Lucas has done, it kinda makes sense. Of course, I was hesitant about the whole thing in the first place, but if he renames the first movie there's no way in hell I'm going to buy it. He tampered with it enough. I'll keep stockpiling my VHS collection.

I guess I won't make any more judgments on the matter until I get more information.
Okay, the exact quote goes like this-
"...and will rename ''Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope.''"
I left out the quote marks the first time, I didn't even think about it. It seems to me, though, if he was saying what you thought he was, Vwing, he would have said "...and will rename "Star Wars:Episode IV"--"A New Hope."", with the two titles separated with separate quote marks. I actually have no idea though, that's just what I would have done. I know it's getting a little messy now, though, so I'll just leave it alone. I am way too confused now to do anything.

Regarding the "extra technological tweaking and cut scenes," I'm sure they mean the stuff they did to make the Special Editions in 1997. That's what's reported everywhere I look. This reporter is just being sloppy with his use of the word "extra." It's old news now, even if it was "extra" in 1997, 20 years after the pre-tampered film was up for Best Picture.
Should go without saying I won't buy it. I prefer my sloppy DVDs pirated from my laserdiscs. NO special crap, but the "New Hope" text crawl is still there.

how good's the quality of those, then?

I don't have DVD Stdio Pro; I have iDVD. So while they look pretty good (on my trinitron they're as good as the laserdisc), they only carry an hour per disc. So the annoying thing is that the three movies are slightly more than two hours long each. So each film has two breaks in it, and spans three discs, corresponding to the three sides on the original laserdiscs.
Since I don't mind the breaks, I don't mind. All the same, one day I'll drop the $1500 on DVD Studio Pro, and make nice one-sided layered discs able to hold the whole 132 minutes of JEDI (even though it sucks, it's the longest in the series). Not that I'd buy the program just to transfer STAR WARS. I'd, like, do other stuff with it. There's just a good chance that I do *that* before anything else!
Something else I mean to do one day: transfer STAR WARS to DVD, but without the sound, and then add the complete score from the CD. Most of that music gets faded out in the movie, but keeps going on the CD. And it's really good; I'd like to hear it without all the dialogue and sound effects. I think STAR WARS, more than the other two, would make a great silent film.

Btw, I do know who Greedo is.
In the Special Editions, just before Han shoots Greedo, there's a sparkle off to the side of Han's head. This is supposed to be Greedo's shot. It's poorly-done, if you ask me.

**** Personally I don't condone the act of video piracy since it directly affects my chosen profession{ Yeah, RIGHT!! }. But in this case where such a great piece of filmaking has the possible potential of being lost forever, I think this is justified. The FBI and Justice Dept. actually don't care about the copying of video tapes as much as they are about DVD copying. So you wont have the G-Men knocking on your door arresting you for being a "video terrorist" under the Patriot Act.{ } If you don't have the equipment for copying, you can purchase Star Wars DVDs on E-Bay. I can't guarantee the quality, though. So if you are so inclined to purchase the star wars trilogy as part of your crusade against Lucas's evil empire, godspeed to you. I KNOW none of you guys will ever copy or buy any illegal copies of any other movies, RIGHT?!!

Poorly done is hardly a way to describe it. Crappy is more like it.
Just how can somebody miss at that distance? Even the clumsest, drunkest shot in the world could hit someone when he's at arms length!
