WASHINGTON -- It may have been just garlic powder.
Authorities say a white powder found in a package opened at John Kerry's presidential campaign headquarters in Washington was harmless. The apparent hoax forced police to seal off the building.
A fire department spokesman says the substance "appears to be some kind of garlic powder, commonly used for seasoning foods."
The package, containing two letter-sized envelopes, was turned over to the FBI for further investigation.
