Well, 2K4 is almost over and done with, and it doesn't look like much of anything of interest is coming out in the last couple of weeks. So I think it's a good time to start listing off your favourite releases of 2004.

The Hives - "Tyrannosaurus Hives"
Lamb Of God - "Ashes Of The Wake"
Death From Above 1979 - "You're A Woman, I'm A Machine"
Tiger Army - "III: Ghost Tigers Rise"
The (International) Noise Conspiracy - "Armed Love"
Sonic Youth - "Sonic Nurse"
The Vines - "Winning Days" (took a while, but it grew on me)
Jimmy Eat World - "Futures"
Green Day - "American Idiot"
HIM - "And Love Said No" (Greatest Hits)
Beastie Boys - "To The 5 Burroughs"
Mouse On Mars - "Radical Connector"
LeTigre - "This Island"
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - "Abbatoir Blues & The Lyre Of Orpheus"
Social Distortion - "Sex, Love & Rock 'N' Roll"

Honourable mention for "Watch Out!" by Alexisonfire. It fell short of their debut, but still has some pretty darn good songs on it.

My favs are:

of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic
Stereolab - Margerine Eclipse
Brian Wilson - Smile
Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat

probably 'Death From Above 1979' and 'Panda Bear' too. And other 2004 releases i may not hear until years from now.

I'd mention all the old stuff that i happened to 'discover' this year too, but there is a lot.

Hmm, my final burst of CD goodness is coming for Christmas, so I'm making a lot of assumptions here...

Slipknot "The Subliminal Verses"
Killswitch Engage "The End of Heartache"
Papa Roach "Getting Away With Murder"
The Eighties... "The Royal Society" (provisionly, but any CD with Mister Mental on it kicks more ass than Jackie Chan wearing clogs)
Green Day "American Idiot" (also provisionly)

I didn't buy too much released this year. Some of these are kinda obscure:

The Hope Harveys "Psychedelic Psailors"
Torch Marauder "Painters, Boxers, and Snappers"
Bjork "Medulla"
Sonic Youth "Sonic Nurse"
2004 Teenbeat Sampler

I only purchased 2 CDs this year: Beastie Boys, "To the Five Boroughs" and G. Love "The Hustle". I thought the former made me go smile.gif while the latter made me go sleep.gif .

Frankly, there's only one CD release I've got excited about this year...Pearl Jam's Greatest Hits.

U2's new album looks alright too (Yes, I will admit it, I like some U2)

Some additions that foolishly escaped my thoughts previously:

-Bjork - "Medulla"
-Cradle Of Filth - "Nymphetamine"
-K-Os - "Joyful Rebellion"

And another honourable mention for "Encore" by Eminem. It falls short of his previous albums, but it still has some of his strongest work to date on it. Seeing him take on things that he KNEW would be trouble (Michael Jackson, George W Bush and the war on terrorism, etc) helped revitalize my interest in him as both a lyricist and as a performer overall.

Having actually heard it now, I can confirm that "The Royal Society" definatly is one of the best albums of the year, covering giggling insanity ("Puppy Dog Snails") to balls out rock ("Mister Mental", nonetheless)

I've yet to hear any more of "Nymphetamine" than Gilded Cunt, but if it follows in that vein...

Snerk... Pearl Jam...

I definately have to also vote in American Idiot. Fucking brilliant in its way. I'm actually wearing my concert T from Nov 5th up here in Rochester today. Coincidence? You betcha.

Although that's the only newly released CD I bought this year. The only other ones I bought were Soundgarden's Superunknown and Smashing Pumpkin's Siamese Dream. But if this was top picks of 1993 (or of all time) they'd be there!
