critics did not like this movie, i am afraid they are reading too much into it, van helsing ruled! the massive amounts of cleavage alone make it awesome, not to mention very cool looking fight scenes, in your face action and knock your socks off sound/scare factor (shit jumps out alot). i am aware of my immature tone of voice but raw testosterone movies turn me into this, bad reviews from a man are rediculous...must be gay

p.s. after reading the batman returns grill i was reminded. the fight scenes in VH are not excessively violent! not alot of blood or guts, but serious action...and it was just...cool (so cool)

Yeah still haven't decided whether I'll give it a look or not. There are a few movies like that actually, with this, Troy, and The Day After Tomorrow, all blockbusters, that I'm not sure if I want to see. I'll probably end up seeing all of them eventually though.

This alone is enough to make me pass the movie off. I hate movies that try to create scares by just having stuff jump out at the main character. That's not scary, it's cheap.

Of course I do, but there was more to Evil Dead than things jumping out suddenly. The movie actually had atmosphere to it. I've never found Evil Dead to be particularily scary, it just appeals to me overall.

turn your volume up

I think everyone's seen this by now. One of our manufacturers (at work) actually links to this site.

Are Van Helsing's fictional friends (?) all in public domain?

Actually, I think Yahtzee hit the pinnacle with those suddenly-scary ghost-y things. Unfortunately I could not find it in his archives to prove it.

oh ill find it, will edit this when i do

edit: here are some of yahtzee's finger-in-ears ratings:

You know how it goes. There's total silence, the pre-corpse wanders around in terror, breathing heavily, then gradually allow themselves to relax. Then, SPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH!!!

My fingers found themselves in my shell-likes on several occasions, but then any moron can make a film scary.

Some jumpy moments, but nothing you don't see coming a mile off.

H20 delights in those annoying moments where there's a sudden action and a jarring chord, but it's really something mundane. I wish horror films would stop doing that to me.

There're so many 'jump and scream like a girl' moments it's almost silly. Like much of the rest of the film.

and my personal favorite:

Nothing really scary happens, unless you find Bruce Campbell's chin intimidating, in which case - 10/10

I think he may have taken that animation down. Too bad, as it was hilarious. I always used it as a reply when someone posted one of those stupid things. It usually put a right good stop to their fun.

it was a fun watch, but riddled with too manny flukes. that shit just gets annoying. lots of cleavage yes, hot babes, cool weapons, b-grade CGI, it was like atching a cartoon. very comiacl....

i had to vote 'no' but i did enjoy it, but i won't see it again.

I hate heros who revolve completeley around luck, and his secret was built up though out the whole movie, and then quickly mentioned in a short sentence like "oh yeah, by the way spoiler!"

I just now went to the L&E index page, and Yahtzee's ghosty flash was right under his picture. Lucky.
