You should register on Pixelation if you're having trouble with pixel art/animation. They're pretty helpful with this kind of stuff.
I'm not the best when it comes to animation, but based on that GIF that Adam posted, your character really ought to lift his legs a little more. It looks like he's shuffling or ice-skating or something. If you have a webcam or a digital camera or something, I would suggest recording yourself walking. Or just Google how to draw walk cycles. -

That' s a fair point. I guess it's all a matter of preference. There's a lot of different things you can do:
Just keep in mind that there's no such thing as 'skin color'. Skin is a buffet of colors, of varying hues and shades and intensities. It's semi-translucent, and there's blood underneath it, and any wealth of light sources could be shining on it. Just keep that in mind, and make sure you're applying a good amount of contrast.
Also, while I'm at it, here's the issue with your mansion:

I started working on something else, this time with AGS. Here's one of the protagonists in all his not-very-well-shaded glory:
Whatcha think?
This is pretty cool. I like the lineart. However, I think there's more that can be done in the way of adding realism and ambiance, and using far fewer colors at that. If I might be so bold: -

To be fair, the platforming sequences were probably the most fun parts of the game (well, maybe except for a couple of them). -

QUOTE (Gobbler @ Sep 22 2008, 07:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>And come to think about it, it's not just Pixar, DreamWorks Animation is just as bad... err... let's see... they did Antz... Shrek, Flushed Away... yup, most of their stuff that comes to mind fits into that pattern as well.
Even if you don't consider Pixar to be particularly amazing, they certainly aren't bad enough to warrant being equated with Dreamworks.
