Of course there are also people on youtube who just spend there time flagging things for copyright infringement as they have honestly nothing more constructive to do.

Getting out attetion away from those who suffer from the stupid virus, and back to the matter at hand, Id like to point out that this isnt the Irate gamer were talking about here, these people werent trying to become popular or make money off of yahtzee's style, these videos were either satires or homages, there was no copyright infringement here. While there were a few videos that were in bad taste, and I dont mind them being taken down, I dont think that these videos were rightfully removed.

All depends what is/was copyrighted. You can technically own some fucking wierd things.

Have you tried emailing the editors of the escapist site yet? Because we have no idea why these videos have been removed by whom, nor do we really care.

I've seen cover songs disappear from youtube too, although not too often. Guess they can't be arsed.

That's odd, because it's perfectly legal to cover a song. You don't need to pay royalties or get artist permission. I donno why, but it's the truth.

You don't need to pay for something if you're making a parody of it either, and I think even though the ZP rip-offs are a shame, they've contained enough original material that I don't think Yatz or The Escapist could make a legal case against them, at least not under current copyright law....
It's not stalking! It's artistic reference!

Yeah, but YouTube is notoriously picky. Take the completely awesome StSanders videos, for example. He took footage of extremely famous guitar players, cut out the sound, and dubbed himself playing horribly (but made it look like that's what they were really playing). It's funnier than it sounds. Lots of people on YouTube would show up and say stuff like, "I don't know why people think Clapton is good, he obviously sucks here!" Pretty hilarious, particularly if you're a guitarist.

Anyway, the original artists got wind of it. Even though the dubbed videos are clearly parodies and therefore completely legal, YouTube cancelled StSanders' channel without notifying him.

I guess they'd rather err on the side of caution, but the guy had hundreds of thousands of views, so he was obviously bringing traffic to the site. Just seems like a really shitty thing to do to one of your most famous uploaders (he was on Letterman, Kimmel, etc.)

Here's a link to the videos on his own private site, just in case anybody is interested. I know we have guitarists here. Clapton, Santana and Ozzy are my favorites.
