Mostly I was just wondering how long we could discuss the fact that there had been a review without discussing the review itself.

Sorry, have I missed something here? When did people stop considering Battlefrank a troll and start holding serious discussions with him?

Who is Battlefrank?

If Age of Conan is an RPG it will either be repetitive or painfully repetitive. I only find exceptions for this in more action or strategy based RPG's, like Diablo.

...if you find RPGs to be varying levels of repetitiveness...how can you find an exception for Diablo? It's simple, only requires you to think in terms of four stats...and then kill EVERYTHING, oh, and find a few things for some people that cba to go find them themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I like Diablo - but repetitiveness is a moot point if you're talking about any RPG based on experience - it'd be better to talk in terms of grind, and as to whether you notice it or not. Some RPGs do involve you having to completely ignore the story/quests in order to kill random mobs in order to be able to accomplish said quests/goals, or some take you from quest to quest, whilst levelling you, even if the quests are grinds, just the fact you're in part accomplishing something masks it - it's why games like WoW and Baldurs Gate have worked quite well.

But those aside, I haven't had a chance to play Conan since beta...the loading times were dire, and no matter how much blood/gore/decapitation/hookers you put into a game, if it's boring, it's still boring.

Bits and pieces of the mechanics, like the lack of an auto-attack of some description, that you have to keep mashing the keys to even to the most regular of attacks...just seems 'clunky'.

Eh.

I personally highly doubt Yahtzee would get fired because of this
1 - He didnt slate Age of Conan that much and didnt go all out and say "Its Shit - Dont Buy It" and even said how he didnt have time to go through everything
2 - Zero Punctuation is the only decent thing on The Escapist and, from what ive read, the only thing which draws in visitors [One of the reason there piggybacking adverts onto the end of the Reviews so viewers might check other articles] So they wouldnt fire there flagship program
3 - Are Edios that stupid? Would they really kick up a fuss because of this sort of thing again? If anything they'd get pissy at the "Balls in mouth" segment of the Mailbag Showdown ZP.

So basically, dont fret - He wont be fired. And even if he did, he'd get snapped up by somewhere else or he'd go back to Youtubing reviews.

I hope.

Perhaps I'm over-simplifying this, but the nitty-gritty of his review was that Conan wasn't his kind of Mummorpagger and gave very valid points as to why.

He also said up front that he didn't know anything about the Conan Mythos. I'm sure if he'd read the books he'd appreciate the game more, but that's just my tiny opinion.

To paraphrase what he said in Mailbag Showdown: People like him saying anything bad about their games are not going to reduce the big companies to tears.

However, it would be hilarious.

Well Goat, I was trying to think of something that didn't annoy me so much. Diablo still had it's moments where you'd come across a room of 40 enemies, cut your way through them slowly without really being affected, then get into the next room to see the same set of 40 enemies.

The Escapist is not GameSpot. And firing Yahtzee would mean loosing the one dependable hit maker they have.

The Escapist won't fire him.

I think everyone gets that by now. Can we talk about the review now?

My dad and my older brother play AoC. It's their bonding time because they hardly ever see each other except for large family gatherings. Two words: WAR. RHINO.
