the scenario where the game the reviewer doesn't like is all over the page because a company paid them(and this time it's eidos again. Fuck those assholes.) and then he gets fired because they didn't like his review is repeating itself.
Yahtzee didn't like the conan game.
Yahtzee has an overall negative review of it.
The site Yahtzee does reviews for has ads of the conan game all over it.
Jeff didn't like Kayne and Lynch.
Jeff had an overall negative review of it.
The site Jeff did review for had ads of Kayne and Lynch all over it.

Also, Eidos is involved again.
I believe Yahtzee is fucked.

But they get a bajillion more hits now that they have Yahtzee. All that advertising would be pointless is people weren't going on their site to watch ZP.
Less hit's = less ad money.
Less Yahtzee= Less hits.

I'd like to briefly entertain this idea. What would happen if Yahtzee got fired? Would another company hire him? Would he go back to making freeware adventure games? Would he continue this site?

I seriously hope Battlefrank was joking, because I laughed.

I don't see anything happening about it tbh.

The amount of bad publicity that Eidos got from the fiasco last time would be in their best interests to be avoided.

Admittedly there have been cases of this before - Penny Arcade allowed advertising of the second prince of persia game on their site before they had played it - which shortly after resulted in them slating it, whilst the adverts were right beside it...no big company muscling in there, so yeah.

Outlook says doubtful.

Or...instead of threatening to take someone to court, or throwing money at problems like this...they could make games that don't suck?

Naaaah.

Yahtzee gets fired, people stop visiting the Escapist, and nobody gives the Escapist ad money.
Would be better to get another company's ad money.
One that does JRPGs because he totally loves them.

They're not gonna fire anybody, even bad publicity is publicity...plus they wouldn't have let him do the review if they didn't expect him to bash at it in the first place,Yahtzee being the antihero of gaming journalism.
Also, the game is pretty much like any previous and future generic spawn of the MMORPG franchise, behind it stands a huge marketing machine and people are gonna play them, pay for it and beg for more.

Sorry, have I missed something here? When did people stop considering Battlefrank a troll and start holding serious discussions with him?

And since Battlefrank didn't link the latest review for us lazy folk, I actually had to hunt down the link and copy and paste it right here.

Seriously, dude. If you're gonna reference the latest Zero Punctuation, at least have the courtesy to link it in the OP. wink.gif
