Boy's voice 'kills 400 chickens'

BEIJING, China (Reuters) -- Hundreds of chickens have been found dead in east China -- and a court has ruled that the cause of death was the screaming of a four-year-old boy who in turn had been scared by a barking dog, state media reported on Wednesday.

The bizarre sequence events began when the boy arrived at a village home in the eastern province of Jiangsu in the summer with his father who was delivering bottles of gas, the Nanjing Morning Post reported.

A villager was quoted as saying the little boy bent over the henhouse window, screaming for a long time, after being scared by the dog.

"One neighbor told police that he had heard the boy's crying that afternoon and another villager confirmed the boy screaming by the henhouse window," the newspaper said.

A court ruled the boy's screaming was "the only unexpected abnormal sound" and that 443 chickens trampled each other to death in fear.

The boy's father was ordered to pay 1,800 yuan ($230) in compensation to the owner of the chickens.

Thanks to the good Doctor for this one.

For most of the article, I had images of small children with literally banshee-esque voices.

I feel awfully reminded of this:

Don't ask me why or what it's got to do with a child killing lotsa animals, I wouldn't know, my mind seems to be quite off track recently.

For that amount of chickens to trample themselves to death it sounds like they were squashed into a small space. If it is wood the sound could drive anyone crazy but I think the claim of the boy running away from a dog is weak. For him to scream like that it is likely he was running away from something bigger that attacked him or even on the spot. Knowing China for their human rights and secrets.

Shouldn't they have locks on the windows to stop the chickens escaping, theft or did they drug them? If they were fed growth hormones and enhancers well that could speak for the aggression of the chickens trampling over each other. Anything like that is possible there.

If this is the situation I am thinking of then it could be like blaming a four year old boy for accidentally provoking chickens in cramped conditions that are already high on drugs.

You think that's expensive, you should see the cost of adopting a kid from another country. Expect to drop around $30,000 on legal expenses.

if the dog scared the boy, techinically it's the dog who killed the chickens...

but then again what kind of kid screams in fear leaning over a chicken coup for long enough to create a poultry stampede?

"AAAGH!" that's it max... not "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *gasp* yahahhahahghghhghghghAGGaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!"

damn drama queen.

Then they can make out because the boy is human he should know better regardless of age. Some people think "Humans are superior to animals" not realizing we evolved from the same group like monkeys.

I don't think it's fair to blame the child for the chickens' idiocy, as he's not a moral agent, but shouldn't someone have shut him the hell up before 443 chickens trampled themselves to death? And how did the last one die, did she trample herself?

Something that maybe true. They were pumped up with drugs and the last few alive had heart attacks from the stress of loud noise.
