Just finished Legion by Dan Abnet, he truly is the master of war.

After a long chain of re-reads (Silmarillion for the fifth time, anyone?), I'm getting into some new territory. I've just started Buckskin Brigades, by need I even say who, and I'm actually surprised at its quality. I would have expected Hubbard's first novel to be noticeably clumsier reading than, say, Battlefield Earth, but this is not the case. Or if it is, I haven't noticed it so far. Some things were a bit awkward, like the quoting from Captain Lewis's journal (both the way it was done and the fact that he resorted to quoting at such length in the first place), but this isn't obviously "young Hubbard." This is just Hubbard, the same guy from Battlefield Earth. I'm still bellow the 100-page-mark, but I'm interested. Hubbard always seems to surprise me.

And remembering Orson Scott Card's wholehearted recommendation from almost a year ago, I just, as in, a few hours ago, began The Name of the Wind by someone called Patrick Rothfuss. Being only one chapter in, I can't say much, other than that this is indeed, as OSC said, amazingly well-written for a first novel.

I'm reading Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert A. Heinlein. It's weird how a book I like so much can be written in a style which reminds me so strongly of Ayn Rand.

The series is probably old news to other people, but new to me. I started reading the Dresden Files a little over a week ago, and have been burning right through them. I'm about 1/3 of the way through White Night right now, which is the 9th book. If you hold any love for sci-fi/fantasy,then I would highly recommend it.

Whoa, am I glad that Dresden refers to the name of the character, and not the Saxonian capital... that would have made for awful sci-fi-fantasy-series.

Oh man, every time I remember about the Dresden Files series it's like fucking Christmas. I love having a new book or two to dig through.

All caught up on the Dresden Files, just have Side Jobs (the short story collection) to read and I hear the rpg books are a riot.

Got Earth (the book): A visitor's Guide to the Human Race for Christmas. It's awesome and I've already blitzed though it. Working on the crossword puzzle near the back. It's pretty tough.
