Ewan McGregor and Scarlet Johansen are amazing in "The Island".
It is Blade Runner plus Logan's Run plus Brave New World plus Minority Report and even "Worlds to Barter" is thrown in.

The set design is amazing. I guess it is easy to have Continuity in 1 film and it was refreshing to see a coherent, sequitur film with Ewan McGregor in it.

Lincoln Six Echo is even luckier than Obi Wan.

Yes cloning. But better than Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Sixth Day.

I like the harkening to Space 1999 as well.

It's none of those things. It is this, which in turn was this! biggrin.gif

I saw "The Island" last night, and I must say, it was pretty well-done for a Michael Bay movie.

The first half was great, McGregor, Johansen and Sean Bean were all excellent. I loved the chase scenes and the effects were not too over-done for once, and the Logan's Run feel pulled me back to childhood for a bit. Cinematography and visual styles were top-notch.

However, I did think the last 15 minutes or so was pretty bad. It just wrapped up way too quickly without much resolution for me. It seemed like they ran out of time or money or something and tried to wrap up as fast as possible. They left several plot holes open like why Ewan had somehow inherited the skills and memories of the man he was cloned from. I also noticed a few continuity breaks (in the editing more than the story), like during the final battle between Sean Bean and Ewan McGregor, we see some armed bad-guys coming onto the walkway to help out Sean Bean, but then we never cut to them again and the fight continues - what happened to those guys? Where did they go?

I'm just nitpicking there. Overall I really enjoyed the film and reccomend everyone go see it. thumbsup.gif

I guess they are subscribing to the belief that our DNA is altered over time by our experience and environment. Perhaps memories are recorded in our DNA.

That is why Lincoln 6 echo knew what his sponsor knew and had the same skills.

Also, shouldn't his name have been Lincoln 6 Epsilon?

Also who knew that XBox video games would come in so handy for survival training.

Haven't you ever used a Sub-Etha Clone-a-Matic before? Yeesh. You just make the DNA donor set a system restore point every 6 months or so and download the information to a boot disk. Then it's a simple matter of inserting the material into the Clone-a-Matic and pressing the green button. But don't press the red button... terrible things happen when you press that one.

Ridden with plot holes, and too long, but a very enjoyable flick. First half is great, especially when they get into the real world for the first time. Definitely isn't deserving of bombing like it is.

Yeah, and PARTS was just a chep knock-off of COMA, that had been released only a year before. I'm glad at least that someone here has seen it; I had figured that post was going to be universally ignored.

Man, The Island was so freakin' cool. Maybe because I entered with low expectations (the director directed armaggedon too!) I liked the flick. The actors gave great perfomances and the script was good. It's an enjoyable flick that doesn't deserve to flop.
Sorry, you won't be seeing a smartass sig here. Try with the next poster.
