Game Over, I think I love you a little bit. blushing.gif

I'm glad for this. It's a nice big change and I likes nice big changes, because when creative people mix it up, that, young man, is when the magic happens.

I wish I could evaluate this more throughly then congradulating Yahtzee on doing something different, but unfortunately I don't have that strong an opinion on it.

...Well, I could say that the trademark break-neck pace of the video ground to a halt whenever he paused to read one of the letters. Note to Yahtzee: ZP fans have a pause button and are, by now, well trained to use it. You don't need to read the letters out loud to us. You can just launch into commentary on them. Going from a long sequence of just you reading a letter back into the normal ZP-Superspeed is jolting and makes it hard for us to keep up.

That's about all I have to say about it.

I found the sequence with the first letter funniest. It was funny because the guy misrepresented Yahtzee's argument and Yahtzee felt obligated to point that out while overlooking the fact that he himself misrepresented SSBB by repeatedly implying it's a button masher (among other things).

The fact of the matter is he doesn't like fighting games, period. And if he'd just left it at that it'd have been fine but going and criticizing the game for problems it doesn't really have is intellectually dishonest, infantile, and the kind of thing one shouldn't have to expect from a critic of Yahtzee's caliber.

Someone commented on the actual video that they thought it was better when Yahtzee actually reviewed games and didn't troll the internet. And I've always treated Yahtzee as a video-game oriented Maddox, and in that sense everything he has done can almost be considered trolling, I think.

I prefer him trolling games than trolling rabbid fanboys... I find that just... childish maybe? I think he acts a bit like that kind of people he is criticising... it just doesn't fit with him.

Anyway, I see this more like a excuse to finish playing GTAIV so it's... "fine" (actually I laughted at the gamespot reference)

(BTW, what does Maddox means?)

Y'know I imagine most things would be "more fun than fucking Mario Kart". Unless you're small enough to fit in that compact disc orifice in which case it might actually be somewhat pleasurable, but intercourse with games isn't something I'd particularly like to speculate on, in fact I probably have speculated on this more than a normal healthy human being should. Wait a minute, I didn't bring up this dirty idea. Fuck you Yahtzee, putting your filthy thoughts in my head.

Most fighting games can be a button masher to a degree, and honestly I could kill an entire team of 9 AIs with Ike hitting A the entire time, probably the same for Wolf, and online the only people used are Ike due to that reason, I have a Wii and liked the game but still.

I remembered him saying that if they are going to use the simon says thing the game designers needs to make it a core part of the game, like God of War and Shenmue did

I do have one more thing to say about this. Not that it's important what I think, but you know me, I'll say anything to anyone, even the internet.

If there's an achillies heel to the ZP videos, it is exactly this: Yahtzee's intense, whole-hearted, and genuine hatred of his "fans."

Granted, they, we, may give him plenty of valid reasons for this loathing, but that doesn't change the fact that the constant string of insults and anger towards those who profess love and admiration, the whole rotten lot of us....it wears ya down after a while.

We come, we laugh, we say yay or nay to the various opinions expressed, and we ignore the hatred, because we have to. I mean, what can you say to something like that?

"He's right, we're a horrible bunch, lets die now?" "He was talking about everyone except me?" "Wow, Yahtzee called us jerks when he doesn't even know us, what an asshole?" "Lets go give our admiration and support to someone who won't insult us for it?"

Not going to happen. Fans attracted by the wit and humor are going to just ignore the hatred before they'll turn that hatred back on Yahtzee himself. 25 pages on the Escapist forums about how much the Mailbag video rocked. That's a lot of love.

Yahtzee's the Big Cool Thing on the Internet, and has been for a while now, but the Masses don't stick around forever. As things get older their exciting Newness wears off and the flaws get harder to overlook. Then something newer and shinier and fresher pops up and everyone hurries off to slather THAT thing with unconditional forever love and forget to remember to check the Escapist on Wendsday morning.

This is just my opinion on what will result in ZP's fall from internet glory. Keep in mind that I don't know jack about anything. Alright, I'm done talking now.

Maddox is an angry man in Utah.

http://maddox.xmission.com/

He has some classic stuff, which is all really old because he rarely updates nowadays, what with his various side projects:

http://www.thebestpa...=garfield_sucks
http://www.thebestpa...xtreme_bullshit

http://www.thebestpa...t/c.cgi?u=irule
http://www.thebestpa.../c.cgi?u=irule2

He wrote a book:

Eh.... Maddox and Yahtzee are by NO MEANS equivalent, but I personally see certain parallels between the two. Maybe they're just both satirists, and that's all. Or maybe I'm bat-shit crazy.

The counterpoint to this would be that his fans can be polarised into two camps, the one camp of intelligent fans who silently appreciate him, perhaps discussing him amongst themselves far, far away from anyone to listen, and the fans who consistently wail on his ass about crap he doesn't want to hear about, sending him billions of emails, professing undying love and basically making a giant, collective arse of themselves. One of these groups is a gigantic and colossal embarrassment to Yahtzee.

I like to think that Yahtzee is ashamed of his more loutish of fanboys. Of those who pester him with generic fanboy emails. Those who criticize him while saying that they still love his work. In fact, I like to think Yahtzee is ashamed of the majority of the human civilisation. Or all of it.
Serves them right, if you ask me. I'm one of them, and I know I deserve it.

It's one thing to pick on EA or Nintendo or other people who obviously are big enough to ignore him, but all these people can do is e-mail and talk on the forums, whereas Yahtzee has a hugely popular video soapbox from which to rip them apart. He's got the BFG 9000 and they've got g-mail accounts. Not nearly a fair fight.

Like Yahtzee said, shooting fish in a barrel.

And no, that "white" comment wasn't funny.

Maybe so, but I have never heard any hint whatsoever that he makes that distinction. Whenever he talks about the Fans, he talks about "the fans" not "that one group of stupid fans." Granted, splitting the camps into "Those who should die" and "those who are alright" would break his flow a bit.
