A change is as good as a bump and a bottle of something yum. For your ebmusement and dejection, Dr Ivo Robotnik.

It makes me sad that he's been turned into Dr. Eggman.
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

Isn't Eggman his original Japanese name, though? I don't see how referring to him by the name his creator gave him is a problem. Both names are kind of stupid.

If that's for a children's show, I think they should rethink their characters. Empty eye sockets creep me the fuck out.

Well, his name was whatever Japanese words for Eggman, which is still a completely different name than either Eggman or Robotnik. It just gives me a twinge of sadness because Sonic vs. Dr. Robotnik was a big part of my childhood - silly Christian daycare could handle Sonic, but not fighting games or any games where "magic" was used - and his name being changed just is a little reminder of how stuff from when I was a kid has aged, right along with me. tongue.gif

It was a UK Sonic show from about 93, and it was very thoroughly aimed at kids. However, they're not empty. Look closer, they're red.

Man, that show was awesome.

I guess they don’t consider turning water into wine to be a magic trick.

Had this explained to me by my know-it-all friend (who happens to be a Sonic fanatic). But I do not remember all the details. Dr. Robotnik was his original name. It was due to release timing here and overseas and a split in the plot or something. Anyway, I'll bug him later about it.

My avatar is the logo of a kickass underground anarchist rebel group in the PS2 game Armored Core 3. They have really deep, impressive voices and fight supercomputers with giant robots. Oh yes.

And if I may also submerge myself in the flow of the topic...I've never been much of a Sonic fan, but IMO Robotnik sounds a hell of a lot less stupid that Eggman.
When in doubt, plead sarcasm.

I always remember Robotnick being Eggman. It said in the instruction manuals for the Genesis games, even the first game said it. It wasn't really his 'name' - it was a nickname the animals called him by.

The real question here is - why do they call Uncle Pennybags by the name of 'Mr.Monopoly' now? What happened?

And I recall all the Genesis manuals referring to him as Dr. Robotnik, sometimes with a first name Ivo.

When did they change Uncle Pennybags' name? sad.gif

I prefer Rich Uncle Skeleton to Uncle Pennybags anyday.

That strip was hilarious. I used to use a cut of his Prince of Persia strip for an avatar on other boards.
