Yes, Campbell was very funny, and JK Simmons is his usual brilliant self as JJ. But other than that, I can't really give any of the actors top marks. Thomas Hayden Church was fairly good given what he had to work with. Maguire tried, and pulled off some decent moments, but ultimately floundered when he tried to go dark. I've never had much patience for Dunst. Franco was okay; I actually sort of like him despite myself, he seems to fit the role of Harry. Grace was irritating and a poor fit for Venom.

I've cooled off since I first saw it, and it doesn't seem as bad as it initially did, but I still think it's a seriously flawed film. There's simply too much plot for a single movie. All of the villains had good potential, but they had no screentime to develope in. The pacing was very uneven, and the script was sub-par to say the least. Venom, the big draw for many fans, was crammed into the movie in a slapdash fashion that screamed 'afterthought'. Worst of all was the 'dark peter' sequence, a 15 minute segment that really made me wonder if the film was attempting self-parody. Instead of being an exploration of Peter's inner demons, it turned into a campy freakshow that had the audience in stitches.

If you don't like campy humour, why are you bothering to watch any film with Sam Raimi's name on it? That's one of the things he's known for.

Spidey Shatters Records With $148M

Spider-Man caught just about everyone in his web. The superhero's latest adventure, "Spider-Man 3," smashed box-office records with $148 million in its first three days, according to studio estimates Sunday.

That put it ahead of the previous record debut of $135.6 million set last summer by "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

With $59.3 million on opening day Friday, Sony's "Spider-Man 3" broke the single-day box-office record, also held by "Dead Man's Chest" with $55.8 million in its first day.

Peter Brady was by far the ugliest Brady kid on the "Brady Bunch". I mean, they were all pretty ugly, and the fact that the Brady dad wanted to always take the boys out on overnight camping trips just a tad bit too often, gave me the creeps.

I don't mind campy humour; I liked the first two movies, and they had plenty of camp. What I don't like is when a movie can't decide if it wants to be campy or angsty. The tone of the 'dark' part of Spiderman 3 was uneven as hell; one moment Peter's bopping down the street like a disco dweeb, the next he's being a very serious and violent asshole. Does the black suit amplify aggression or stupidity? I honestly couldn't tell.

i'll refrain from my usual
page long rant as i have been
informed to let people experience
the horror for themselves

but i must say the
essence of Spiderman was lost
NEVER NEVER would spidey
or rather Peter have acted

like a cocky bastard
even before Venom

It's right in the song
"Wealth and fame he's ignored
Action is his reward"

which leads me to the DANCING
*shakes head
neever in my wildest dreams
could i have fathomed that

Duct tape is like the force....

There's a lightside, a darkside

and it holds everything together

I feel so retarded that I didn't recognize Campbell when I should have. And Ms. Bryce Dallas Howard was Gwen? Whaa?

I can safely say that I had a whole lot of fun watching it, but I can't say it was very good. Don't watch it expecting it to be serious or focused and you'll be ok.

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW.

Overall, it was half good, half atrocious. Some of that atrociousness was good. There were many groan-worthy moments. That dancing scene should not have been in there. And emo-Peter was seriously lame. The movie was very very confused as to what it wanted to be, and most people in the theater were laughing/groaning, along with the group I went with. Venom needed much more Venom time, (and less Eric Foreman in the venom suit time), and the Sandman was completely unecessary, though it did make for some neat special effects. And why the hell did the stupid butler wait until the end of Spider-Man 3 to tell Harry about Willem Dafoe? Geeze! And MJ was a total bitch at parts.

[Peter says something about how he understands what MJ is going through and tries to sympathise and help her deal with how she's feeling]

MJ: "Why don't you understand me or listen to me?"

It was like Anikin(sp?) in Ep. 3.

How is this news to people?

Here's a quick recap of my personal life for anyone who cares. I guess there's at least 2 of you out there.

I am a lesbian. I was in the military. I married my friend while I was in the military so we could move off base and get paid extra. He was my best friend and living together like married folk was working out, so when I got out, we just stayed married. And we lived happily ever after hitting on big breasted women and obsessing over Monica Bellucci.

Hopefully that should clear up any confusion. wink.gif

That's just all sorts of awesome.

When I grow up, I want to marry a lesbian. wub.gif

EDIT: And back on topic!

I saw Spier-Man 3 at the IMAX, and I gotta agree with Slade. It was a lot of fun, but it wasn't a great film. It certainly wasn't the second one.

SPOILERS!

Why didst they kill Venom? That was just stupid.

SPOILERS GO BYE BYE!

(PS Isn't it awesome Firefox spell checker counts 'Didst' as a word?'

I guess this is a spoiled topic now? Spoilers are ok?

Ok, I watched the movie today and didn't like it. I think it reminded me why I don't like superhero comics. Spoilers on:

The problem with superhero comics is that most of the time the superheroes are talking about their feelings and arguing with their girlfriends. Most of the superhero movies have avoided too much of this so far, but the Spiderman films have been revelling in it. This one was that in the mostest, with decade-long sequences of "why oh why?" type dialogue and lots of staring off while talking with your back turned to the person you're talking to. Gag. If I wanted a soap opera, I'd watch ER.

The Saturday Night Fever parody was ridiculous. For one thing, this Peter Parker is too young to care about that film, and his hairstyle was all emo, not puffed up a la the last days of disco. And he made a point of being from Queens. Travolta in SNF was from Brooklyn, and strutted in Brooklyn. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bit in SM3 is in Manhattan? Ah whatever.

Yes, there was no reason for any of the villains to die in the movie, and that is a bothersome tradition of the superhero movies, begun with Tim Burton's 1989 BATMAN. Another boring cliche is the villain-will-die foreshadowing, being the scene where the villain learns the hero's identity. After that, there's no way he can live. I think that cliche started in a Batman comic from the 60s, "The 1001 Secrets of the Batcave." Of course, it may have its origin further back than that, but nowhere have I seen so much of it as there is in the movies. It's interesting that the filmmakers chose to use this cliche as well as counter it; Sandman is allowed to learn Spidey's identity; he's also let go after an unjustified it of terrorism, kidnapping, attempted murder and property damage. Apparently all is forgiven if you have a sick daughter. That reminded me of Freeze's sick wife in BATMAN AND ROBIN. "Oh, that's ok buddy; we'll make sure you're treated well after trying to kill every man woman and child in Gotham."

There was a lot of audience laughter at inappropriate moments when I watched it. I found myself grimmacing for about 30 minutes of the 139-minute run. Just about the entirety of the "bad Peter" sequence was embarrassing and awful, and everything that happens in that sequence is ultimately important for the film. So that pretty much killed it for me.

"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

YAY SPOILERS!!!!!
you have to highlight to see
thanks to CIV2 biggrin.gif

Okay the Sandman was utterly useless
he was just there to tie
up a lose end that had
already been tied up.
He was just there for the action.

EVEN WORSE is that he was forgiven
so quickly and then floated away on the wind??!?!?!?!!!!
Give me a kit kat bar
and HARRY oh GOD
the only thing that saved him in

this movie was his smile, humour and good looks.
He too, was very easy to for give after years
of loathing Peter.

WHY didn't the butler explain to Harry
before that Spiderman didn't kill his father?
Why doesn't Harry have surgery to fix his face ,he has the money

WHY?????
WHy does MJ sing?
Why is Gwen relevent? they coulda shoved
any ho in her spot and it woulda worked

Since when does Harry cook?
Why does Peter waste time talking
to sandman while Harry is DYING?!?!?!

OH they Kill Harry MYGODMYGOD
as you can see this movie did nothing other then pose more questions
It was such an emoitional rollercoaster and the DANCING
i felt like Peter shoulda been singing as he struted down the street

(to "Do you think i'm sexy")

*falsetto
if you want my spidey and you think i'm sexy come on MJ let me know
If you really need me just reach for my web babe Gwennie tell me so

(Harry jumps in outta nowhere)

We're sexy baby

(*spoken) by we i mean me

I'll drive you crazy

*forward hip gyration

thats all for now

marvel is not going to kill any of its top cash crop icons. and even if a character does die in a film, you can surely expect marvel to concoct a story of their resurrection to reignite that character back into action.

marvel will not permanently kill off any of its money-making characters, just as much as they wont sell the rights of the spiderman character to DC comics

(oh i bet DC is foaming anxiously at the mouth for that purchasing option)

kirsten dunce...lmfao..why the hell did sam raimi cast her for the role of mary jane?

surely there are scores of redheads in this world that look far more beautiful than, kirtsen dunst does.

she looks like some kentucky backwoods country bumpkin, her teeth looks like she has been chewing on shaved glass and rusted nails, because they are jagged like a piranha's!

if i was spiderman i sure the hell wouldnt get my ass up off of my couch and turn the tv off, just to swing around town trying to find her and save her ass.

my spidey-sense would have already told me, that her ass isnt worth saving.

no,.this spiderman would be secretly tucked away inside a hidden brothel in soho getting his jollies off. (cues porno music: "bomp, chika-chika, womp, womp, womp)

screw kirsten dunce,... she needs a new grill, a boob job, a face lift and something seriously done to her hair.
