$600 for a game console that has a tacky, tacked on Wii ripoff contoller and BluRay (yawn) technology that still might go the way of Betamax.

The Wii's graphics are clearly inferior, but man it looks like a big bus load of jolly fun to play.

YES PLEASE.

Video

p.s Theres no rumble feature on the PS3's controller, most TV's can't support Blu-Ray yet anyway, theres no wi-fi, and did I mention the cost...

Gee, am I happy that I've got this trusty computer at my side... wouldn't want to spend 600 bucks on something that's already obsolete again within 3 days.

Nintendo has a long history of making really stupid decisions but I gotta say at this point that it's the next-gen console I want the most. I still haven't got an Xbox 360 because there still isn't a game I want to play (except Oblivion but I could just get that for PC).

I won't get a PS3 because it's FAR too expensive and the games don't really get me that much.

I may get a Wii just because of the new Mario game and potentially any Zelda that may occur. If they keep the price point low there's a good chance I'll pick one up. I haven't turned my Gamecube on in AGES though.

I only ever bought a handful of games for my Gamecube, but they were all good, solid games (Zelda, Metroid etc.). The Mario game was mediocre for a Mario game, but still a lot more fun than a lot of the PS2 games I played. If the wii can turn out only 6 or 7 games like that it'll be worth getting.

I was reading Kotaku this morning though, and they were reporting mixed reactions to the Wii controller for the third party releases. Still early days yet though and still time to fine tune the games.

I totally agree with you. I won't be getting one until it drops its price.

And I hate Sony for saying that Nintendo had stupid gimmicks. So what do they do? Steal Nintendo's gimmick. Hypocrite assholes.

So what if in some countries that "Wii" sounds like the word for piss, because that's exactly what this system is going to do to Xbox 360 and PS3 it's going to piss all over them in terms of sheer awesomeness compared to their suckitude in therms of what it can do and what their systems can't.
Other words that the name sounds like which are actually positives:
We = Stated by Nintendo as in "We all play together as a global community" - exactly what they are going for with this system.
Oui = French for yes - as in "Yes! Finally a truely awesome Nintendo system!"
Wee = Small - the system itself is actually only about the size of 3 DVD cases glued together so it's really not very big at all.
- See it all works biggrin.gif

You're not a Nintendo-salesman by any chance?

Yeah, I know that I sound like a salesman. It just that I want the Wii to be succesful so Nintendo keeps making consoles and games and stuff. Why do I love Nintendo? Because I owe my childhood to Nintendo tongue.gif

I thought Blu-Ray was just the next DVD format... doesn't it depend on the DVD player or the console in question then? unsure.gif

As far as I understand it, if you're TV doesn't support the format, you wont be able to tell the difference. Could be wrong though.

Exactly. You have to have a HD TV to tell the difference. Otherwise, it'll just play as everything else.

On a side note, I do support Sony. I'm not so sure they will retain the leadership in the market this time around, but I think the PS3 will be powerful enough to not be overlooked. The price is a bitch, though.

I think that in this New Generation of consoles, either Microsoft or Sony are going to follow the way of Sega.

Like Sith Avenger, I am not a Nintendo salesperson either, but I totally agree with everything that he's said so far about the Wii, and I too will probably wait to see what they have to offer with it and see how much it and the games will cost before I decide to invest in it. I am liking what I've seen so far though, but there is one tiny thing that is bothering me about it and it isn't the name. It's the so far apparent lack of Gameboy compatiblity. While Nintendo is saying that you can use Gamecube controllers and be able to somehow download just about every game they've made for home consoles on it to play there hasn't been anything about any Gameboy Player type periferal (sic) devices to go with it. One of the things that I like most about my Gamecube is the ability to play my GBA games and older Gameboy games on my TV screen in a larger format whenever I want so that I don't have to play them on the little GBA all the time (although there's really nothing wrong with that, it's just nice to have the option). Here's hoping for future add-ons that will sell it more for me than it already has. thumbsup.gif
