Lucas has screwed us again with KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL...

Obviously not in the same league as PHANTOM MENACE et al but I still think it deserves a "Reasons to Hate"... Can you do one please?

To start the ball rolling: Reason 1: the stupid title...

Agreed. Cyrstall Skull is screaming for a "Reasons to Hate".

I don't buy that STAR WARS was meant exclusively for kids. JEDI was, sure, but not the original. The first was for folks who might get sly references to cowbow pics, serials, old sci fi and samurai movies. But mostly the serials. Anyone who's seen the old Flash Gordon serials couldn't fail to see the connection. And yeah, kids liked those, but Lucas was selling STAR WARS to those same kids, who would all have been much older when his homage came out.

If STAR WARS was exclusively for kids he wouldn't have included the bounty hunter, Han killing Greedo, the severed arm, or the implication that Leia was tortured for information.

The original Star Wars and Empire especially were not meant for kids. Remember, Lucas was under 20th Century Fox's watchful eye when he made the first films, and he didn't even direct Empire or Jedi (though he did have enough clout on the film to push the Ewoks into play). The screenplays were written by Lawrence Kasdan and Fox had tight control on what they wanted the films to be. This, I believe, is one of the reasons Lucas didn't want to direct Empire or Jedi, because he didn't have complete control over the films and they didn't turn out the way he wanted them too (which is why we got those God-awful Special Edition versions in 1997).

The beauty of the Original Trilogy (non-Special Editions of course), is that they were themed with adults in mind, but kids loved them anyway becasue kids will love anything that has lasers and spaceships and aliens in it. Lucas could have done the exact same thing with the new ones and kids still would have loved them for the same reasons. Instead, he made them like a bunch of freaking cartoons and alienated his adult audiences.
He's a complete idiot in my opinion. Just think of all the billions of more dollars he could have made if he had made them more in the style of the originals - kids would have still loved them, and the adults would have taken their kids to see them again and again because the adults liked them too.
It's too bad Fox let him have his way with these new ones - they could have been something incredible instead of something despicable.

The irony is that he had made an absolute statement by saying that only a Sith would deal in absolutes.

You're right, it is an absolute statement, and it was in its original context too.

If you all think back to the Bush/Kerry debates in 2004, George Bush made a retort to one of John Kerry's remarks by saying "I only deal in absolutes". I took the remark in Ep3 as a feeble attempt by Lucas to say George Bush is evil.

Maybe I'm completely wrong and Lucas didn't even notice the connection, but it seemed pretty blatant to me at the time I saw the film and I know Lucas is a huge supporter of the Democratic Party and very anti-war (which is funny he chooses to make movies about wars). Plus there are other occurences. In Ep1, one of the bad-Japanese accent, Nemodian guys is named Nute Gunray (Newt Gingrich?) And near the beginning of Ep3, Amidala is telling Anakin about trying to stop this pointless fighting (Iraq war?) - that one might be a stretch, but the other two seem pretty plausible.

Anybody ever notice that at the "Gungan Sacred Place" - where Amidala and gang meet up with the idiot Gungans to form and alliance against the invading droid armies - almost all the statues surrounding the "sacred place" are human? I thought the Gungan's "no like'n the Naboo". So why the Hell is their "sacred place" filled with giant statues of human faces? wacko.gif

Here's another thing I didn't see in Chefelf's Reasons to Hate Ep 2 that I thought should be included. It has to do with the Geonosian Bug-Boys and Steam Vents.

When Anakin, Amidala and the droids are arrving on Geonosis they are looking for a place to land. Amidala points out these giant steam vents as a good landing spot. WHAT? Who the Hell would ever think of landing inside a freaking steam vent? First off, there's STEAM coming out! For George Lucas or mental midgets the equivalent of - steam is super-heated water in vaporous form. Direct exposure to it for even a few seconds can blister and peel flesh instantly. So I hope they don't plan on getting out of the ship if they land in there. And secondly, even if you do land in the stupid steam vent, where are you going to go? I don't know many steam vents that have doors in them.

Of course, not only are our heroes steam proof, there is an exit inside the steam vent leading into a hallway filled with sleeping Bug-Men! And at the other end of this bug-boy sleeping chamber is a factory assembly line! Is anyone else not getting this? How ludicrous is this crap??

Finally, these Geonosian bug-boys are so techologically advanced they have invented deadly sonic weaponary, build and maintain huge Battle Droid factories, and even invented the Death Star - BUT they run around in nothing but grass skirts and sleep inside hallways connected to factory floors on one end, and steam vents on the OTHER!!!!? ?? GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK!!!!

Anyway, that's one of the thousands of problems with Ep2 that caught my attention.
