    Posted 15 Mar 2008

I downloaded it and watched, and while most changes are indeed welcome, some i did not like.

The idea of putting the episode III soundtrack in the well cuted new Anakin vs Darth duel, was terrible. Can I please remember that 3 particular movies made in 1999, 2002 and 2005 don't exist? laugh.gif

Also the first appearance of the Death Star which is now near a planet, is not very well done in my opinion. Other than that, a must have for any SW fan.

PS: I loved the removal of the Vader red eyes. it always bothered me.

PS2: The guy who did this edit really has talent... and patience!

wow i thought the story for the PT was set in stone in 1995 when the prequels started pre-production. i didn't know lucas just made each episode up as he went along.

I did not read the e-book on this thread, but since clones I had this notion that he just make it as he goes.

If you have access to the Attack of the Clones Bonus DVD, you'll see that a Yoda CGI was in tests by the ILM team. How come, if the story was already written, would they do Yoda fighting if it was a puppet like in the previous movies? Lucas gave the OK to the Yoda CGI and so the script was, in the very least, changed to accommodate Yoda fighting.

Also if all the prequel story's were all written in advance, would it not be strange that Jar Jar was such an important character in the first movie, and simply written off the script for episode II and III? Same goes to the midichlorians stuff, besides the first movie, they are never stated in Clones , and just brought up in the last movie for the Anakin dark side plot device. (here Lucas most likely read the reviews of phantom in the net rolleyes.gif )

IMO Lucas had a general idea of the prequels story line line, details, and some important ones, like Yoda fighting where added as the production and shooting of the movies went.

For the Leia remembering her mother - when Luke asks that, Leia has no idea they are brother and sister yet. I can only imagine she is speaking about Bail's wife, who may have died early on in her childhood.

Luke : "You remember your mother? Your real mother"

I'm sure she's talking about their mother, the one who died when Leia was very young.

"Back to the Future" was not an art house film, but in that movie we have a mother with the hots for her own kid. Nobody freaked out about that, weird as it is.

In the DVD documentary there is the information Disney turned down BTTF because of that mother/son plot device. They did not found it appropriate for a family Disney Movie.

I cannot believe that Lucas didn't have at least a general idea as to the plot of Return of the Jedi. And, unless there was going to be some new character suddenly introduced in the last installment who was going to solve everything, the last hope could only really be Leia. I mean, was Yoda about to say, "if Luke fails, I can always call up Joe the Super-Jedi. I haven't mentioned him before, but I'm pretty sure he can sort it all out."

Don' t underestimate Lucas capacity to make it as he goes along, during production for Attack of the Clones, the ILM team showed Lucas some demos of a CGI Yoda, (this is in the AOTC Extras DVD) so at that time (pre-production?) one would expect that the script was already written, but if it was decided not to make Yoda CGI, he could never fight with Docku and Palpatine (in ROTS), that would be pretty major changes in both scripts.

And the apparent changes between ROTJ and ESB don't surprise me at all, everything was rushed to close the story there. At shotting time of ESB there were plans for an entire movie (the next one) with Luke looking for his sister. I think the sister idea was always there (the twins concept was there from the very early drafts of SW) but the Luke-Leia connection was apparently forced for ROTJ to end the trilogy.

Thank you, Chef. That's exactly what I have been trying to point out for the last year. When it comes down to it, without Mr.Lucas there is NO Star Wars.

    You have a point.
However if there was no Star Wars we would not miss it anyway.

It's like thousands of projects that never saw the light of the day and that if were made could have become big hits. Since we never even heard of them, it's not really like we miss them.
