  1. In Topic: Best Star Wars Movie

If ESB had've sucked then the Star Wars phenomenon probably would not still be going as strong today. For that reason alone ESB should be considered the best of all of the movies. (Plus the fact that it's clearly the best of the movies anyway).

Anyone who claims EP3 is better either -
    A) - has never seen ESB.
    B) - was born quite recently and enjoys movies largely for SPFX.
    C) - has the last name McCallum.
    D) - like to believe they ARE Anakin Skywalker when they watch EP3.
    E) - will hopefully come to their senses one day when they grow up.

At least he attempted to show some sort of affection between the 2.  In AOTC there was not a shred of evidence that there was a hint of a bond between the 2.

And that is of course Chefelf's point for reason #18. GL's attempt to establish a great friendship suddenly comes out of NOWHERE and is therefore an obvious attempt to try and give more weight to the fight at the end. It comes across as just another heavy-handed attempt at manipulating the audience. It's akin to making Indy say "I hate snakes" when the title of the movie is 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Snakes'. The audience knows exactly why the line is there and you are taken out of the movie faster than if you opened with a CGI shot that follows behind a ship like its one of the bats out of VanHelsing.

    Further to Reason #18 -

It has been mentioned in interviews that GL made 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' "compulsory viewing" for the Ewen and Hayden - so that they might get a feel for the friendship they were supposed to have before Anakin's fall.
But how in hell Georgie Porge thought he was getting anything near the level of that banter is beyond me. Not only was his script as weak as piss but the chemistry that his direction created between the two 'leads' was like watching two straight guys trying to convince each other that they're not gay.

Not to mention that it's just wrong to tease your actors by showing them a real movie while insisting they star in your playschool pantomime.

    Reason #92

If - and I know it's a big if - someone had never seen Star Wars movies before. And if - and this is a bigger if - they wanted to watch them in order of Episode 1 to 6. Then why did George have Padme give away everything by telling us the names of her children right before karking it?

If he had taken out that line and cut the scene of Obiwan going to Tattoine then new viewers would watch A New Hope with only a vague suspicion that Luke might be one of the children. And maybe even thinking he may have 'born' like Anakin was (being from the same planet and all).

And only the very observant might catch that Leia is travelling in a similar ship from ROTS. But there'd be no outright confirmation from Padme - "This one's Luke, and you'll be seeing him again soon. This one's Leia, she's his sister but he won't find that out for another couple of movies."

Now the Father scene in Empire just catches the characters up with what the audience was told two movies earlier. Where it could have still been some kind of reveal, where you at least went "I knew it!".
