Topics I've Started

  1. Why Did We Need To Know Vader's Origins?

    Posted 22 Jun 2005

I never wanted the Prequels to be made. Not ever. I didn't find out TPM was coming out until a few months before it did. I wasn't occupied with what had come before; I was perfectly content with the story we got in the OT. If there was anything I fleetingly wondered about, it was how Palpatine came to power, not Vader's origins. They weren't all that important to me. He was a powerful henchman who just happened to be the father of the hero, Luke Skywalker. To me, his story wouldn't have been as interesting as Luke's (and I was right), and the swing from good to evil would be too easy to mess up.

So I don't see the need to know.
  2. The Big Secret

    Posted 9 Jun 2005

...what would really be the consequences? Would there really be hell to pay for either of them? We get Obi-Wan's speech about being expelled from the order if Anakin had stopped to get Padme and let Dooku get away. They don't seem to be too concerned because Padme insists on being in the public eye, and I guess nobody at the Temple asks where Anakin goes at night. How bad could the consequences be, then? wink.gif
  3. Anakin's Turn To The Dark Side

    Posted 12 Apr 2005

For the past two weeks or so, I've been valiantly trying to wrap my brain around Anakin's turn. No matter how I look at it, it makes absolutely no sense. What I've been desperately seeking is the true root to his turn, what's really driving his actions. I've been asking over and over where his need for power, his anger, hatred, etc. is coming from, and I get "he wants power", "he's greedy", "he's selfish", yada, yada, yada. Well, what's driving all of that? I want to get to the root of it all, the simple truth that has nothing to do with the stuff around him and nothing to do with anyone but him. I would hate to think that GL never got that deep onto Anakin's character. But it's really showing that he didn't.
  4. $650 Million? Big Stinking Deal!

    Posted 12 Nov 2004

I've had it up to here (two feet over my head) with people slinging around that figure to prove that AOTC was a success. I don't care how you cut it up, adjust for inflation, count ticket and DVD/VHS sales. Rotten movies will take in huge sums of money, just because people like them or want to see how really bad it is. Slap a SW label on something, and the most rabid fanboys will always show up in droves, regardless of quality. Titanic made a lot of its money from people who saw it 50 times! No, I can't back that up with scientific surveys, I'm going by what I've seen and heard from other people. Discount it as anectdotal evidence if you want to. Money is too general a marker because we don't know exactly who paid to see it and why.

$650 million is a success on paper. That does not always translate to quality, friends, and that's all I'm concerned about.

    Teaser Poster

I've seen fan art that looks better than this. Heck, the fake poster that was going around looks better than this! blink.gif
