I totally agree with Nicholai. Missions and killing npcs in general is boring just as it is in any other mmo. To see how different EVE is you have to join a player run corporation and get involved in whaterver they are up to.
What I like most about EVE is that you can be whoever you want. I, for example, consider myslef an architect. Alliances hire me when they want to build a station. Which by the way, is like many things in EVE, a long and complicated process involving a lot of prepations and commitment from many players.
Or how about becoming a diplomat for an alliance of 1000+ players. Surely a very demanding task but can be very rewarding as well.
Theese are just two examples of interesting things you can do out there. And there's so much more...
