I think he listens to his wallet more.

Maybe, but even if the hard-core OOT fans never bought another Lucasfilm product, I sincerely doubt it would hurt his pocketbook. He really has no need for the money the OOT release will bring.

Until and unless Lucas says otherwise (e.i., he did it all for the money), I prefer to believe that he changed his mind for another, better reason. Maybe some wise person told him he didn't need to feel ashamed of the OOT anymore. laugh.gif

If someone already has the OOT on a fan-made DVD, laserdisc, or VHS, and they *don't* want to get the official DVD release, that's no skin off my nose. I just think it's great news, that's all, and I think it also shows a side of Lucas that many of us thought was either dead and gone or just deeply buried.

Apparently he listens to his fans after all.

Here you are. The discussion above is a direct proof that Lucas had Shmi captured by sand people for no reson at all, or for his fans to speculate what they were doing with her. Would you argue why Vader was after Han Solo in ESB?Or after Leia in ANH? No, the reasons were obvious they were pivotal to the plot. Here, we don't know. Something happens, oh well, because it could

To have something happen for no reason at all is not good story telling.

The whole trick of having the tale told backward not forwardd is that in order to be coherent you need a lot of skill so the seams, patches and holes would not show. There were ways of doing it, but Lucas was simply not up to the task. And the result is mess.

I think you hit the nail dead on the head, Madame. Lucas had a good thing goin' with Star Wars, but I just don't think that he's the caliber of storyteller to be able to smoothly and flawlessly pull off a trick like making the PT and the OT mesh together neatly. I just don't believe his thing about having it 'all in his head' from the beginning. I think he was making certain details up as he went along, like Chris Carter did with the X-Files, and no matter how great a cast or how good the special effects are, the seams in the plot-lines will show through.

And, heck, I'm a person who liked ROTJ, and who thought ROTS was several cuts above the other two prequels. So I guess I could say that I think GL has done two crappy SW films (the first two prequels), two really, really good ones (ANH and ESB) and two reasonably okay ones (ROTJ and ROTS, with ROTJ being my personal favorite of the two).

Which I guess is not too bad of a track record. biggrin.gif Ultimately, though, IMHO, the two trilogies don't connect like they should or even could have, and that is due to the storytelling flaws in the first two prequels.

Yes, Sidious wanted Dooku out of the way so he could take on Anakin, it was a "necessary loss" as he put it. I think it makes Palpatine even more heartless and evil. Eventually, he'll try to do the same thing to Vader as he did to Dooku.

You' re right; it does tie in with Palpatine telling Luke to kill Vader in ROTJ... Makes you wonder if Luke could have become an even more powerful Sith than Vader?

    Probably...

    QUOTE (jariten)
I like Palpatine messing with Anakins mind, and I like the idea that Lucas made Anakins birth ambigious. Is it the result of interfernance from a 'good' source (the 'living force' as Qui Gon saw it) or a bad one (the sith)? what is Anakins destiny? its left intentionally ambigious until RotJ, where he finally fulfills the prophecy and restores balance by killing the last sith (himself included).

I agree. I did like that aspect of the film, and I'm glad that Lucas really gave Ian McDiarmid a chance to stand out in this one; in the first two his role was disappointingly small, IMHO.

Your point about whether Anakin is a product of good or evil is interesting also, in the light of that my dad believes that Darth Plagius was Palpatine's own master, and that it was Palpatine who offed him. I like that thought very much. . . devil.gif

    QUOTE (Jordan)
Did people laugh in the threatre when he said "nooooooooooooooooooooo" ?

My dad did. Then my mom joined in, and then I started to laugh! blushing.gif

It was quiet laughter though; I wouldn't want to ruin the film for anyone else... blush.gif

I'm waiting for that moment to be parodied on the internet. I'd love to see it spliced with Howard Dean flipping out.

    -Anakin rises from the table-

    "YEAAAAAH! YEEEAAAAGGHHHHHH!"

I'll have you know that you nearly killed me with that. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

On a more serious note, though, can't we discuss this film politely? I thought that Chefelf said "No Flaming, people". We don't have to use "gusher" and "basher" like obscenities against each other.

Not to get on a high horse myself, but when people start slinging insults over a subjective opinion on a movie, I think it's just silly. It's not a life-or-death thing. sleep.gif

Fuck it, let's go all the way! Change the dialogue! The real lines Lucas wanted were not allowed due to technological limits, but now that we have the CGI technology to do it we'll be treated to lines like:

"Luke, you are in my very soul tormenting me, come to the dark side!"

That is so horrifying on so many different levels. sick.gif
