Topics I've Started

  1. Dedicated to Terry Brooks

    Posted 6 Aug 2006

I was surprised not to see Terry Brooks in this forum so I will add in here. I am a big fan of Terry Brooks since starting with The Heritage of Shannara in the early nineties. Since reading those, I have made a point of finding the original Shannara series and reading those. I've read a few of the Magic Kingdom of Landover series and have really enjoyed the Word and the Void series. If you have not read these books then I highly suggest reading them.

In the Shannara series you will find good versus evil with believable characters. Terry Brooks has done an excellent job of making these characters likeable and realistic. The Shannara series really defines the line between good and evil and shows the consequences of choices we make. It also shows people going above and beyond and sacrificing all they have for a common cause.

The Word and the Void is good for the confrontation between good and evil in today's modern world. This series is perhaps the darkest of all of Terry Brooks' books. In this series we see characters with flaws yet they still overcome them to fight evil. We also see the price one character pays for his service.

I haven't read all of the Magic Kingdom series yet. I have been so busy in the other series. However, I read the first one and I enjoyed it. It stands apart from the others as being more of a fairytale and comical. From a talking dog to a Chicago lawyer becoming a king, it really is different.

Terry Brooks also wrote the adaptation for Star Wars Episode I and I will admit that it is a good read given what Terry had to work with. So, let me know what you think and I look forward to hearing your comments. I will also be updating this forum with character listings and better descriptives of the books in each series.

If you need to more than you can always check out the website The Wondrous Worlds of Terry Brooks It has all the books listed and news on upcoming releases.
  2. Tag and Bink

    Posted 30 Jul 2006

They need to make a movie or cartoon series based on Tag and Bink. These two explain what all has gone wrong with the Star Wars series. I have collected the comic books and I laugh all the time I read them. Any thoughts?
  3. Allow me to try my hand...

    Posted 4 Jun 2005

Even though I have said that George Lucas has every right to produce his stories the way he seems fit, I do admit that there have been times that I thought if I had the chance, what would I do better. So, using my amateur writing skills, here goes...

Episode I: To begin the whole Star Wars saga, I would still have Qui-Gon Ginn and Obi Wan, but both as Jedi Masters assigned to protect Queen Amidala. Darth Maul, the whole Trade Federation would still be in effect. The only difference is that this episode should have introduced the clones in sync with Palpatine's rise to Chancellor. He becomes Chancellor after the former one mysteriously disappears (we would find out by Ep 3 that Palpatine had him murdered). Anakin would be in his teens (like 13 or 14, I can't stand the fact that a 10 year old gained the love of a 19 year olld, *shudders*) who was found by Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan while stranded on Tattooine. However, his piloting skills would not just be based on his podracing skills, but also towards the end when he does not by luck destroy a starship, but actually shows the older pilots his real flying skill. Darth Maul would still kill Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan then kills Darth Maul, and then he takes Anakin as his apprentice. Yoda and Mace Windu tells each other they sense dark times with the clones and an era of unprecedented war throughout the galaxy.

Episode II:The Clone Wars: Flash forward five years later when Anakin is an apprentice under Obi-Wan caught in the middle of the Clone Wars, which erupted two to three years after Ep I. Amidala is the senator of her planet. Pretty much everything that was covered in the Cartoon Network series would be shown in this movie. The way it should have been was the Clone Wars for Ep 2. We would see Anakin being seduced to the Dark Side through his lust for power and fear of death. I would still play with the death of Shmi, but not so wooden as it was in the actual movie. I would definetely show Anakin slicing away on the sand people. I would still introduce Darth Tyrannus (no Dooku) as the leader of the Separatist (Droid) Movement. The movie would end with the introduction of General Grievous and the abduciton of the Chancellor Palpatine.

Episode III: Revenge of the Sith: No changes here. Now we would see what we saw and it should flow more smoothly then what it did, with the exception of Amidala dying at the end. Keep her alive so Leia will have some fond memories. Also, I would let Anakin start calling Obi-wan Ben in reference to how old Kenobi was getting. Sort of a jest between friends. Obi-Wan uses that name at the end as a sort of affectionate towards the times when he and Anakin were friends.

Sound off on it. If I sound stupid let me know. Now I am just having fun with these posts. Long live Star Wars though. I still love it no matter what.
  4. Naysayers beware

All critics beware, George Lucas has done the unthinkable. He has produced the Star Wars movie us fans have been waiting for. I refuse to believe anyone could seriously nitpick this one. However, because I know that some people do not have a life, you probably will. Let me say I was deeply pleased with ROTS. Darth Vader has risen and so has the Star Wars stories.
