  1. In Topic: Self-Proclaimed Nerds/Geeks

    Posted 3 Apr 2009

I have to agree with Nate on this one. And the comments I read for the most part. (I kind of skimmed the last half a page.) I know some people who are like this. I also know some people who are super nerds/geeks who are just into the geek things, but just come off as a big old loveable geek. I'm a geek.. but I don't go out of my way to prove it, nor to prove that it makes me better than the rest of the mortals. (Except this one guy.. I am totaly better than him. really)

Anyway. Just my two cents because I haven't been posting much at all.

I also started a blog to keep track of my geeky endevors, but I have two posts on it total, and they are lame. Maybe I'll share later. The food blog hasn't been started yet either. (soon maybe.)

The music snob equivalent of this annoys me ten times as much. I also hate the fact that EVERYONE thinks they have this incredibly eclectic taste in music and posts things like, "I have a super eclectic taste in music. One minute I'm listening to Madonna, then the next minute I'm listening to Outkast. It's crazy! I like pretty much anything except country!"

No one seems to realize that an "eclectic" taste in music is completely run of the mill.

Man.. I do have an eclectic taste. really... I do... love me! err... I mean.. um... Anyway! I listen to stuff a lot of people don't know. But I'm more than happy to suggest stuff to people when I hear they like something that is more known. Not to be snobby.. but because I think they might actually like it. (And who doesn't like to find new music they like?)

    Anyway. enough ranting.
  2. In Topic: Why I Hate iTunes

    Posted 23 Sep 2008

I just got my iPhone a few weeks ago, and have yet to really hit podcasts. As in I don't take public transportation so I don't usually listen to anything on the iphone.. although if I figure out how to hook it up to my radio in my car I might. The radio transmitter connections don't usually fair well around here, too much other radio.

Anyhoo.... I've pretty much just used iTunes to look for free apps for the phone, and I used to use it to sync my music to my old iPod, but I haven't gotten the network set up here so I can get to the RAID to get to my music to set it up on the new itunes. (I installed it all on a fresh installed machine, so I didn't upgrade.)

A lot of the problems you stated seemed kind of obvious and I'm surprised they didn't think of that, since they do a lot of other nice things.. like when I get a call from a number I have listed in two contacts with the same name (my parents home number for instance) the phone states the call is from Mom or Dad Moore (their names left off to protect the innocent.)

I'll have to play around with it more now though... after I find some podcasts I might want to listen to.
  3. In Topic: My 2007 Christmas List

Some systems can actually take into account the traffic.. if you have the service.. and it works in the area you are in.. But I just use it as a suggestion or when I'm going somewhere I don't know. If I know a better way I go that way. (In fact I'll start arguing with the British Lady... but she still loves me.. I know it!)

So yeah, useful, but I don't feel like I have to have it on. (But then again I get lost a lot.. sometimes on purpose.. and is nice to have a guide back home.)

I love the british lady in my mini...err... the sat nav system in my mini. I use it a lot especially when I hit traffic on the way to work, it can tell me new ways to go. But I too would pay money to never have to go to New Jersey again though. (I had to spend a month there once.. for work.. it wasn't fun.)
  5. In Topic: My New HD TiVo

    Posted 16 Nov 2007

I only skimmed the post, I'm tired and didn't feel like fully reading, but thought I'd throw in a few comments anyway biggrin.gif

So I found that you have to thumbs down a few things before the Tivo starts to give relevant suggestions. The more data they have the better they can suggest. Granted my roommate and I shared one at one point (before we parted ways that is...) and it would come up with stuff like "The history of porn" on the history channel. (seriously.. parts 1 and 2)

They also had some way of pushing buttons on the remote so that you could change one of the buttons to be a jump forward button. (Here is a link - Tivo 30 second skip)

I'm not sure this works with the new HD tivo.. or if it even has a new version of the remote.

    Anyway. Hope all is well!
