The war on terror is good, it means that the war on drugs is over, and now we can spark up in peace. Let them pester the hell out of somebody else for a change.

I made the mistake of watching some of "Star Wars" with the commentary of Lucas running.

The Falcon went into hyperspace and Lucas spent about 5 minutes explaining in smug self satisfied detail about he he always knew that Parsecs was a distance measure and not a time measure, ("this has confused many fans throut the years, but I never made a mistake using that word"). You see, the Falcon isn't any FASTER than any other ships, it just has a better navigation computer. It can plot a shorter course between any two points than any other ship, (thus less "parsecs")and so it can get there faster. This has always been the case, and and that's why Solo says "Less than 12 parsecs". It's nothing to do with being a fast ship, or the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. Lucas just wanted to clear that up for us all. What a dick head.

Most commentaries are kind of interesting, with actors saying, "Look, you can see me slip on a banana peel here," or "in this conversation all the shots of X were filmed in January and all the shots of Y were filmed in August, that's why nothing matches up." Lucas just dribbles absolute crap about how he has never made a mistake in his life.

I can almost put up with him smugly defending himself during thoses interviews where everyone was bashing him about the new trilogy, (I mean he has to fight back a little bit doesn't he), but why not just admit that parsecs sounded cool and wasn't supposed to actually mean anything other than the fact that the falcon was fast and had a quick time for the Kessle run? He is a total idiot.

Gave Up reading Star Wars fiction after Splinter of the minds eye, and some early Han Solo book. What a load of crap! Sorry to paint all the new fiction with the same brush, but I can't be bothered to try and read some little story which has to run in circles so as to not contradict anything else that has supposedly "happened" or is going to happen.

Phantom Menace scores half a point by introducing Qui Gon for the above reason - nobody knew he was coming. Kurgan X wonders if it would make more sense to instead have mature Obi-Wan Kenobi and have him act like Qui Gon, or some established villian, like Jabba, or Tarkin. Maybe it would have made more sense, but when you are remodeling the house, you shouldn't just change the paint from "beige" to "off white". Knock a couple of walls down and put in a new fireplace.

Phantom Menace sucked in the same way that Indianna Jones and the last cruasade sucked, Jedi sucked, beyond thunderdome sucked, back to the futures 2 and 3 sucked, etc. The films did not take themselves at all seriously, and THAT sucks!

I wonder if Lucas himself understands the whole sequence of events he calls a plot. I wish he could explain it to me, because thinking about it now, and reading this post, it doesn't make any sense at all. But I guess Lucas has already spent 12 hours explaining it to me, and I don't get it. Does anybody have the cliffs notes version?

Like seriously, it doesn't make any sense what so ever. People who like the PT must be insane, (not neccesarily in a negative way) but not one part of it makes sense to a sane human being. Actually not even the original trilogy anymore!!!! !!

It seems to me that the problem for many people about the prequels is that they have all read too much of the extended universe and too many fan magazines. If you have a preconceived notion about what they prequel story was supposed to be - yes the obvious one where anakin is 18, a jedi in the space navy, etc. etc - and you knew that palpatine was the emperor and padme was amidala and you knew that Darth Maul was supposed to be the new bad ass villain, then I guess you could be disapointed. Not enough Darth Maul, too much Qui Gonn, and the mysteries obvious. Whose fault is that?

I am not a prequel lover, but Phantom Menace isn't too much stupider than Return of the Jedi. There is only one Jar Jar, there are many Ewoks, Palpatine is not more cartoonish than the Mr. Burns the Emperor, Darth Maul is more interesting than any muppets in Jabba's palace, Qui Gonn and Obi Wan swimming in fake water is no more ridiculous than that dumb scene where Artoo and Threepio fall off the sail barge and manage to bury themselves six feet into the sand head first, and then are pulled out by their feet in a scene where it is obvious that no sand exists.

I saw the original trilogy, kind of liked most of it, forgot about it, and and when Phantom menace showed up, went to see it. Sure it was kind of childish, but I had seen Jedi, and the newest Indianna Jones movie, and it wasn't as stupid as either of those movies. Why the hatred. If anything it should be merely a bored dismissal - like maybe I should have gone into theater 12 instead and seen that one... oh well.
