Yeah this had to be done. I'm curious as to how many people have seen this. I really think it's a really great story and its totally devoid of stunts or special effects. I love it!

I'm with you. I saw it only once and it's been a long time since... but I was deeply impressed by this movie. It was such a wonderful story, a bittersweet romance, the source of many great lines ("Play it, Sam." and "Round up the usual suspects.") .... ah, where would cinema have been without it?
Lastly, Humphrey Bogart was cool. Very, very cool.

I haven't seen it, but I hear it spawned the line "In all the spacebars in all the galaxy, you had to rematerialize in this one."

Actually its really surprising. You watch stuff like the Simpsons and futurama and see scenes that seem a little odd and then you watch classic movies and you'll start to find some of their origins. I very much like Casablanca and I'm trying to get to see Citizen Kane despite what I've heard about it. If you havnt read the book "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" yet than go see the movie. Yes, that is Christopher Lloyd and Danny Devito and Jack Nicholson in that movie and its where two of them got hteir start. The book is better but its from that movie that you get the scene wherein the indian tosses a big panel out a window and runs away.

J M, I'd like to take this opportunity to warn you away from Citizen Kane. It is sometimes hailed as the greatest movie ever made.... but that is plain wrong.
It is a terrible movie and terribly over-rated. Do not waste two hours of your life on that rubbish.

J M, see CITIZEN KANE and make up your own mind. Movie goer may be right about it not being the best film ever made, but really? Is that a strong enough reason not to see it? Does every film have to be the best film ever made?
PS: he may be wrong as well. It's really quite good, and influential, albeit rushed and therefore lacking in a few small story details. yadda yadda blah blah blah
PPS: CASABLANCA is often hailed as the "perfect screenplay," and the classic example of the three-act structure that is essential to American studio filmmaking. It is witty and wonderful and genuinely romantic. I don't know if we have enough for a thread here. Could someone come along and say why they hate it, please?

"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

I think I'm going to have to see citizen kane, regardless. I made it through battlefiend earth, I can handle citizen Kane. Speaking of which BE needs its own thread.

Gee, J M HofMarn, you ARE a tough guy. I switched if off when they started feeding the guys in cages with this yellow puss-like goo using hoses.
Yes, perhaps you can start a new thread. Bashing in general is much more enjoyable than praising. Much as I tried, I could not find any films that were supposed to be bad, and turned out good. The other way round is much, much easier!

Strangely enough, I didn't mind Battlefield Earth. Then again, I can't remember anything about it, so my opinion may have changed over time.
