Hmmm.... I remember being warned before the Special Editions came out that this would be our last chance to own the original movies. I didn't take the threat seriously then. But at the time, I didn't know how much of a wanker George Lucas was.

Remember the astronaut looking fellow who introduces Obi-Wan to Chewbacca? I guess they'll introduce him in Ep3. but the jabba scene: there's this 4-eyed blue ape alien whose eyes widen real big when Solo kills Jabba by surprise. Taken aback by Han's action, as we should be. I have to buy this tape from my friend!

Never considered this: ought the cantina go CRAZY when obi-wan uses his lightsaber? I mean, the only people who ever used that weapon are a distant memory, right?

never noticed 3po shuts down when Ben K tells Luke of his father. I suppose that's supposed to be significant? wink.gif

From the way Obi Wan so casually said "I was once a Jedi Knight, the same as your father.", it seemed that there were probably a few retired Jedi Knights around the place. It also seemed that when he said the Jedi were all but extinct, he obviously wasn't counting himself as a Jedi Knight. Think about it. He said "I was once a Jedi Knight." It makes sense.

So I don't think it would be too strange for the guys in the cantina. Maybe a smart ass might say "Put it away, old man." and some other jerk would chime in. "Yeah, there's one of those crazy old guys who used be a jedi knight - probably still thinks he's got a place in the galaxy or something."

Well I'm happy.

went to ebay a little while ago and they had a box set of the OT videos, with the auction ending just now. I'm the top bidder at only $11.50.

I was so ecstatic about potentially "winning" I had to constrain myself from mentioning to prevent a bidding war with barend or any other good folks.

Just another virginal tale.

summer of 77, my sister and I went up to Columbus Ohio for a family reunion. Didn't know all my cousins that well, but a group of them had just gotten back from seeing Star Wars. they were Visibly affected. I looked at their copy of the novel, and the 16 page photo section and thought, what is this? the sandperson photo looked real bizarre to me. Then I recalled a copy of READ magazine (kind of a 7th grade weekly reader pub) from may showed the T raider, chewie, 3p0 with a headline- movie welcomes you to a weird world. so there was some buzz before it came out if you knew where to look. I was intrigued in Ohio, but didn't make the effort to see the film.

anyway, we returned to Birmingham with grandparents (actually lived in Missouri at the time) where the newspaper's movie section had a big ad: coming next friday, Star Wars! and I was so bummed 'cause we'd be flying home before that.

I cannot remember another time I wanted to see a film more. Really felt like I was missing out on something.

My story is entirely unfantastic. My mom got the Special Edition triology for the family for Christmas when I was about 8.

My sympathies to you if your first impression of Star Wars was the SEs.

Flying Ferret

Battle for the Galaxy--read the "other Star Wars"

All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.

Been watching the pre SE ANH, and it's amazing how well it holds up still. 2 more shots, squadron of xwings approach the DS (right before but without the "sunglint" SE xwing shot) and the 3 or 4 ships flying AWAY from DS prior to the explosion (no SE ring besides.)

I can see why they're so happy during the off to see the wizard dance. Carrie is bouncing like nowhere else! cool.gif I THOUGHT I recalled the "gaffer's tape" anecdote referring to the DS scenes. So maybe there's no tape on Yavin-4.

On the way to Y-4: "I only hope that on the day that information is discovered blah blah" implies that some time passed before the preparation for the big battle. am I reading too much into that? (not that it matters.) "when we heard about alderaan we'd feared the worst." "how'd you find out? that was like an hour ago? oh, yeah. the force." smile.gif

She said "I only hope that when the data's analysed, a weakness can be found."
