you guys want a bad 007 movie?! try Live and Let Die.  the only redeeming part was Baron Semidi.And Moonraker is by far my favorite film of the entire series....yes Roger Moore is the worst of the bonds moonraker has: lasers.space. lasers in space.

I liked Live and Let Die actually.....I mean it's not great or anything.....but
it has...

1. An extremely hot looking Jane Seymour.

2. Yaphet Kotto as a villain

3. Bond hanging in a all black bar in Harlem {priceless!!}

4. Some okay villains in Tee-Hee and Baron Samedi.

QUOTE
Do people count Never Say Never Again as part of the Bond canon? I don't, because it's not an 'official' Bond movie and it's really just a remake of Thunderball.

I don't, becaue it is a remake a.......still I did enjoy Never Say Never Again. It was good to see Connery again as Bond.

QUOTE
One other thing that always annoyed me about the Bond films was that they filmed the books in entirely the wrong order, totally destroying continuity. The most egregious example is in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, where the entire plot hinges on Blofeld not recognising Bond - even though they had met in the previous film, You Only Live Twice.

Continuity is not one of the James Bond series strong points. Essentially these movies are done in a vacuum, oblivous to the other movies. Only rarely do you get continuity in the James Bond Series...

When you think about.......how could Blofelt have NOT known what Bond looks like????? I mean this was the spy that defeated him several times!!!! You would think he would have a picture file on the guy????

It;s like Donald Rumsfield not knowing what Osama Bin Ladin looks like, even though they never met......................................mmmm.......maybe that's a bad example...... {actually they probably have met... yell.gif }

But you get my gist..

Yeah, the 'Live and Let Die' theme song is really good. I still prefer the Shirley Bassey ones, though.

While we are at it...............

How about the best and worst Bond themes.

My list of the best.

1. Live and Let Die - The Beatles {nuff said}
2. Goldfinger- Shirley Bassey {who doesn't know this theme!}
3. The Living Daylights- AH-HA! { a surprisingly great song, one of the two gems by this group.} {works very well in orchestra arrangement}
4. You Only Live Twice- (?) {nice beginning for this song}
5. For Your Eyes Only-Sheena Easton {I know it's very 80s...but it still is a nice song....then again maybe it's just my old crush on Sheena Easton}

My worst list

1. Die Another Day {Madonna}never saw the movie, but heard the song. Ugh!!!
2. Spy Who Loved Me - What a boring, dull song, how did this tune become a top 25 hit for so long????
3. Diamonds are Forever- too repetive and annoying
4. The Man with the Golden Gun- never has a Bond film title sounded so annoying when sung.
5. Moonraker- sounds like something you would hear in a bad Piano bar lounge

My list would be pretty much the same, except that I like Diamonds Are Forever. Other ones I like are From Russia With Love and Thunderball; others I dislike are A View to a Kill and pretty much any theme from the Pierce Brosnan films.

Paul McCartney and Wings did the theme for "Live and Let Die." And I'd not have brought it up but I remembered that there's a Beatles song "Help!" which had a very Bond-esque prelude all its own.

I never saw the one Duran Duran did.
But I saw more than two hours worth of the video, as it was in heavy-rotation. what was the title? (thinking) I can't remember. somebody soaring off the eiffel tower. but my mind is cycling through a dozen DD tunes to remember the name. Of course if I remembered, then I'd be humming it nonstop so I'll do something else now.

A view to a kill. that's right. Duran2 kept that "bad-dah-dum dum" thing going like every 4 measures. I kept wanting to say "union of the snake" but that song had some content to it by comparison. I believe this was the summer of "live aid."

how's this for a small world?

when i was a kid, one of my favorite shows was Remington Steele, and as a result I was quite a fan of Pierce Brosnan.

but funnily enough, what i didn't know was that my next door neighbor was the mother of Cassandra Harris who played 'Countess Lisl von Schlaf' in For Your Eyes Only. who was also married to Pierce Brosnan at the time... It really annoys me that i didn't find out untill about 12 years after, when having lunch with a friend of mine and her mother who was the sister of Casandra Harris. and i was talking about where i grew up...

and before you ask...
no i never got to meet Pierce Brosnan, cause i had a falling out with that friend before i got to meet him.

yes, i made enemies with james bonds niece!!!
oh, well.

I quite like the "View to a Kill" song... but maybe it's only my a capella version. (This is the same group that made "The Gummi Bears" theme into one of my favorite songs.)

"You Only Live Twice" is wicked cheesy (one life for yourself, and one for your dreams?) but I like it, too.

I agree with Mike that "Live and Let Die" and "Goldfinger" are the two best Bond tunes, but I disagree with the order.

I think "Man With the Golden Gun" is in the category of "so bad it's good," and I do not agree that the expression is overused. Certainly not by me. Anyway, the best thing about that tune is putting it on infinite repeat with +10 Health playing the Golden Gun scenario, with four players, preferably in the full stacks (Library plus Basement). By ten kills you're singing along, feeling the madness claw like a mole in your brain.

I used to be a big U2 fan, before they were replaced by robots, so naturally my favorite bad Bond tune is "Godeneye," which like the film of the same name, seems like it was written by a very clever Bond emulator, and not by the same guy who wrote "Tomorrow" and "A Sort of Homecoming."
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

I believe Tina Turner did that song, unless U2 wrote it or something.

Yes. Bono wrote the theme to GOLDENEYE.

Tina Turner brought class to it. I don' believe she has ever written a song in her life, but she brings class to the stuff she sings. I'll say, even the MAD MAX song, but not the one she sang wth Bryan Adams. Matter/antimatter.

Good to hear from you again, civ. cool.gif

You might be right. I actually haven't heard the theme in a while.........I just remember the annoying way the title phrase was sung. The song also doesn't translate well into orchestration.

I hear you. Agreee big-time regarding U2. dry.gif

Goldeneye is like most of the Brosnan theme, they seem like bad spoofs of previous Bond songs.

What are your views on "Living Daylights" by AH-HA!. I think it is one of the most underrated Bond themes.
