... unless some foolhardy person decides to argue that Die Another Day was good.

So just what was so bad about it? I heard it was really awful but I haven't seen it myself.

Oh, Helina... such a big question... and one that will take a long time to answer. It's pretty much bedtime for me, over here in Korea, but I will try to get back to you with the answer to your question when I have time.

It's just a bit late for me to start a long post, that's all.

But, my god, it is a bad movie. Very, very... bad (and I'm not just talking about Madonna's contributions).

Although that would be bad, enough on it's own. :yuck:

I knew from the moment that DAD came out that film would suck big time.

It just seemed like they were going back to the Roger Moore style films, which was a big mistake.

I can say that at the start of the film, Bond got captured and they were torturing him during the opening credits... which seemed far too dark and horrible for a Bond film to begin with... and over the credits, they were playing THAT MADONNA SONG (shudder).

The scary part was that I couldn't decide which of the two was worse - the song was THAT BAD.

I saw Goldeneye on the airplane (had seen it prior) and it was laughable how much was cut out. Like anytime any aircraft was shown, they'd cut to our leads tangled in a bush. tongue.gif

I really liked the car flip over the river in Golden Gun. And Herve, it was a good role for him at the time actually.

Dalton always seemed to take a dim view with his role, I believe.

My sister had the James Bond soundtrack album. that was a classy release in the early 80's.

I've always wanted to get to others to vocalize the JB theme with me. ok, that's all.

You guys are nuts. MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN is awful, yes, but it's so bad it's good. Bringing back the sheriff from LIVE AND LET DIE for cheap cornball comic relief was a sure sign the series was deperate. The Roger Moore Bond films are definitely the worst, but they hit their all-time low with MOONRAKER. Jaws gets a girlfriend! Your highlight moments, Mike, in MWtGG, have no equivalent in MOONRAKER. It is bad all the way through.

Moonraker has a few good moment in it.

1.It is not an unwatchable movie, IMO.

2. The opening sequence, while short on realism, was still very exciting, If you take out the Jaws ripchord fiasco.

3. The scene where Drax's dobeman's kill that woman was a very good scene.

4. Bond killing that sniper on Drax's compound "Such good sport" line was funny.

5. The "G force" simulator was a very good scene as well. Almost reminiscent of a similar scene in Thunderball

6. The wrist shooter remains as one of the most practical and probably more useful bond gadgets.

7. Although some people hate the use of the "Close Encounters" theme in Moonraker, it kind is an amusing homage in a way. Not that annoying, IMO.

8. As an average B movie actioner it is enjoyable. We've seen worse.

9. The python attack, was kind of interesting, even Moore's pun wasn't that bad. It had good comedic timing to it.

I guess it is a toss-up between which is worse, Moonraker or The Man with the Golden Gun. They both are low end Bond films IMO. Still, I would watch both movies again.

BT I think the so bad it's good phrase is an overused saying. A bad movies is only watchable when the MST3K crew is there for commentary cool.gif

I don't know. Plan 9 from Outer Space was funny enough on its own.

What do you guys think about the possibility of Hugh Jackman playing Bond? I have heard rumors about it?

IMO, it could be a well deserved breath of life. But only if the quality of the movies is improved.

I would very much like to see Hugh have a go at Bond. I think he would bring a bit of life to the role. Having said that I enjoy Brosnan as Bond and as you say Mike, with some better movie quality I think people would view his movies differently.

Jackman is an actor that pulls performances though and is likely to be able to make something average class up another notch by his presence. I have not seen Van Helsing yet so reserve the right to change this statement depending how I feel after seeing it. tongue.gif

Hugh Jackson stole X-Men, I remember that. Everyone else just paled into the background when he was on the screen...

well, everyone except Famke Jennson. cool.gif

  • Golden Eye
  • Tommorow Never Dies
  • Die Another Day

is it just me or do the newer JB flicks have titles assembled using words and phrases from the old JB flicks...

i tested the theory out with some friends... and we came up with
  • Never Moon Her Magisty Twice
  • Octofinger
  • You Only Live Forever
  • Never Say Forever Again
  • Never Say Never Forever
  • Moon Thunder
  • Pussyfinger
the last one of course led to an hour of laughter and futher ideas including;
  • On Her Magisty's Secret Pussy
  • The Man With The Golden Pussy
  • Pussyraker
  • For your Pussy Only
amongst many more of similar theme, the most sensible being:
  • Never Say Pussy Again
This is why intelligent conversations should not be had around me.
there were many more, but i can't be bothered typing them all.

Do people count Never Say Never Again as part of the Bond canon? I don't, because it's not an 'official' Bond movie and it's really just a remake of Thunderball.

One other thing that always annoyed me about the Bond films was that they filmed the books in entirely the wrong order, totally destroying continuity. The most egregious example is in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, where the entire plot hinges on Blofeld not recognising Bond - even though they had met in the previous film, You Only Live Twice.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.
