While on the subject of work, the reason I was so out of it the other day was because I was way beyond overloaded with information at work. Essentially, I got the history of SCSI, IDE, DNS, BIND, firewalls, proxies, VPNS their pet names for things, their acronyms for things, their pet names for acronyms for petnames, etc. as well as the present state of technology, the applications at work, the things you're taught in school, tips and secrets of the technology, Microsoft's stupidity (one of the easier subjects
), ways of cracking, and the various theories on how things are looking to go in the future shoved into my head.
Some other things too, but I'm not able to recall them at the moment.
First off, it's not one of my usual jobs. A couple friends of mine, who happen to be heads of cyber security and network administration for a large organization, asked if I wanted to go to work with them. I said, "Yes" because it was an excellent opportunity to learn things, and they pay me if I'll do some of the more menial tasks like inventory or summat, but the main payment is the knowledge.
Security had me ruffled before I even got to the area where they work. Vehicle checks, baggage checks, clearance checks, and personal escorts galore. When I got there, one after the other of them took me aside and tried to make my head explode by giving me the equivalent of years of study in the course of an hour and much faster than my mind could process things. I enjoyed it immensely, but I found myself staring at them blankly, and I had to make an effort to change my facial expression every once in a while. I also made an effort to try to grasp some of the information flowing all around me and speed-process it in an attempt to make some intelligent remark about it. "Oh, so that's like _______". "So that's why ________." Things like that. By the end of the day, I felt on the verge of being physically ill and mentally exhausted. Luckily, the next day they gave me a reprieve because there were some more pressing issues to take care of. Anywho, they are giving me an opportunity to earn a full-ride scholarship and a job while in college and possibly after.
Sorry for the ramble. I'm kind of excited.

I'm comfortably numb.
