Ok, as some of you may or may not know, Pitch Black is a movie that came out in 1999 starring Vin Diesel about an eclectic group of people who crash land on a desert planet where the suns (there are 2 of them, a yellow and blue one) always shine. Vin Diesel plays the criminal Riddick, cold-hearted, selfish, and who can see in the dark. This happens to become very useful, because every 22 years, there is a total eclipse, which then makes the world, you guessed it, pitch black. Not just that, but nocturnal animals who live underground come out and start preying on our heroes. It is the "prequel" to the upcoming "The Chronicles of Riddick" though that movie's premise seems to be completely different, and is a sequel in the loosest sense of the word.
Now, this movie has attained cult status. I have one question for anyone here who has seen it. WHY? This is a forgettable sci-fi horror picture with only one really intriguing character, which is Riddick. Some of the effects of the blue sun are pretty cool, and when you see through Riddick-vision it is as well. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's just not that great. It's fairly entertaining. I understand bringing Riddick over, because he was a good character. But why is this a cult picture, which I usually love?

Vwing,
back in 2000, I went to a friends house who was watching Pitch Black. I laughed at him for renting it, assuming it was another average B movie. But I was bored so I started watching it (besides, I am a sci-fi fan). But surely enough, I became captivated by the story and the environment created. I must say I enjoyed it.
Fast forward to june 2004...
So I'm sort of hyped to see the Chronicles of Riddick, since I liked PB. What did I think of it?
IT SUCKED MASSIVELY!!!
1. It had little (if anything) to do with PB. Just the Riddick character.
2. The storyline is about some quasi-Roman Empire type of people who have the power it disappear and reappear for the length of 5 ft (1.524 meters for the non-Americans).
3. The ending. Dont worry, I wont spoil it for those foolish enough to go see it, but I will say this. By the end, I was looking at my watch and praying for the credits.
Stay away from this one, sci-fi buffs. You've been warned.

Really? I had no idea it ever reached cult status. From who have you heard that from? Are that many people into it. Never saw pitch Black. The only thing that movie has going for it is Vin Diesel. That's it. Pitch Black was essentially a vehicle for Diesel, much in the same way that awful Cyborg movie was for Van Damme.
