If any of you like strategy games and havn't investigated Civilization 2 you're missing out. It has scenarios and great units and lacks only a multiplayer format. However you can cheat to create multiplayer by:
Getting into a game between yourself and a computer opponent.
Turn cheat mode on.
Make your turn and don't hit enter
Turn the computer over to your friend and have him use set human player so he's playing the opposition.
Switch back
Repeat ad infinitum. This works great if you get it just right.
Yeah it's sad. Anyone played civ3?

I've played the original Civilization and Civ 3, but not Civ 2. 3 is good but it had some major flaws, particularly concerning battles and resource management. I prefer Alpha Centauri, another game by Sid Meier.
I used to love turn-based strategy games... too bad there aren't many around these days. I'm not so keen on RTS - I like to play at my own pace.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

I've only played 3, and I wasn't very good at it. Unfortunatly, I seem to have lost it so I can't improove.
The Green Knight, SimeSublime the Puffinesque, liker of chips and hunter of gnomes.

A product came out in 1999 called Civ 2: Test of Time. It was three games in one: A fantasy game that sucks ass, a sci-fi game that is essentially Civ 2 with a stratospheric environment, cities built in a grid above the clouds (this is late in the game, after the appropriate advance is earned), and then the regular game Civ 2.
Here's the thing: All three allow for a multi-player game!
J m HofMarN, you may want to check it out.

"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

It's all about Civilization 1. Even better, playing online: Freeciv

As far as I can tell it's a strange hybrid of the two. The latest Freeciv employs the rather annoying diagonal perspective that I hate. I much prefer the overhead 2D style of the original. Movement just confuses and annoys me in the later Freeciv version.
In the Linux version you can choose different map tile sets to have it in the original view.

Eh, I dont know about your assesment, Quiet Observer. Granted, Civ 3's power curve seems to start a little too high, but generally the changes seem like a good thing. I like the resource idea (like, you need horses to make horse units, you need iron to make certain armored units, etc), and there are generally more troop types, improvements, options, etc. Also, the nation you start with makes a noticable difference in the game, and thats always fun.
In conclusion... the starting difficulty: bad... the diplomatic victory option: stupid... everything else: good.
