Well, the Clone Wars has been out for a while. Now pre-production in Australia
is going to begin. Here's a translation from a French website that's
gotten posted on theforce.net. You can see the actual site link listed at the
bottom, or on my own website at www.Shimmeringsword.com

"100 Episodes Confirmed? Upcoming Production?

With little news on the TV show and not knowing what to do about it, your
work-exhausted webmaster has decided to take the initiative and do some
investigating for some much needed information. The first confirmation: the
series will well be in Australia, more specifically in New South Wales, the area
around Sydney.

In fact, the governing Australian organization "Screen Australia" which takes
care of all aspects of the management of film and television productions will
confirm in its monthly 2009 May report on productions in the kangaroo kingdom
that the Star Wars series is in production.

You can tell me more or less what you think of all this. But remember (yes,
there is a but) this tidbit has only been posted for a few days, which seems to
indicate that things are moving forward.

Also, a second piece of information, the person who subsequently contacted me
added: "It is expected that the production of the Star Wars series will be soon.
As you can appreciate things can change daily in the film industry. We recommend
that you get in contact directly [with] Lucasfilm."

Fearing nothing, I then contacted Lucasfilm (who's communication department
has really gotten to know me – they're very nice). They were, how shall I say, a
little evasive.

"The live-action series is still too far off for any immediately impending
announcements, but feel free to keep checking in!"

Lastly, it's true that they're not very far along. However, the whiff of info
I get is that Lucasfilm can't say anything for the moment, and therefore no
concrete information can be release to the public.

But believe me, things are moving and shaking, and SWU will always be the
first source to report on the latest information about the live-action Star Wars
series.

There are more than a few Aussies on this board. We need to get a mole into Fox Studios in Sydney. Barend?? Are you up for it?

But got to say I only watched a few episodes of the Clone Wars CGI series before giving up on it. My expectations for the live action series is zero. I won't even bother wasting an hour out of my life to watch it unless I see ChefElf smothered with rave reviews.

I like the TV show. It's like watching a video game without having to hurt my thumbs. But, yeah, it is what it is. I like all of the tech and fighting.

What did you think of the Battlestar remake. I eventually got to like it. Eventually Star Wars will go through the same re-make. Probably in our lifetimes too.

I know I'm going to watch the TV show, but it will be weird not having classic icons.

Didn't watch the Battlestar overhaul - These days there's so much to do and so much out there something has to be exceptional to get my attention. A re-make of Star Wars, done properly, would be excellent. That won't happen but when they finally pry Star Wars from Lucas' cold dead hands, the right person could do a lot with it. The universe is rich with fiction by decent authors. Maybe that will get some exposure instead of Lucas/Failoni.

Better! There's a remote chance the characters might die, and no kiddie cameos. Oh look it's Baby Palpatine!

There's a TV show? I'm so out of touch! I didn't even see the recent movie.

And holy crap, I didn't realize the new book was out, Nick! I want to buy it immediately. Where do I purchase it so that you get the biggest/best cut?

Yeah, I want a HBO version of Star Wars where you don't refer to every drug in the universe as "spice", where everyone doesn't speak "basic", and people that evolve (and devolve) instead of being an "archetype".

We can start counting down 75 years after GL dies before the franchise becomes open to the public.

Chef: The book's been out since last fall. You can get it on amazon.com. I'm trying to find an agent who can find the book a new publisher who will put it out on bookstore shelves. No rush, though, with the economy as it is. A new release with the TV next year wouldn't be a bad time for a new "release".
