Why is Jabba in a Bridal outfit? Ohhhh...

Duncan Thomson, 41, and Sammi Gardiner, 39, got married in an unusual ceremony surrounded by friends and family all dressed as characters from the sci-fi movies.

In a pun on the films' famous phrase, "may the force be with you", they chose Monday as the date for the service, so they could bill it as "May the 4th be with you". (May 4 was declared "Star Wars Day" by bedwetting fanboys in what I consider it an outrageous slur on Hispanic Americans.)

However, despite his absence, the bride and groom tied the knot as the film's hero and heroine, exchanging vows themed on their favourite scenes: "I promise to protect you from carbon freezing and promise to protect you from the Dark Side, through hyperspace and into the far reaches of the galaxy."

The couple were joined by Mr Thomson's son Kieren, 18 in a Wookie suit and his daughter Charlotte, 20, carried out her duties as head bridesmaid while acting out the part of Queen Padme Amidala.

The couple, from the Isle of Wight, even invited the movie's director George Lucas, who wrote back to them saying he was unable to attend. The couple also sent invitations to actors Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill – who played Solo, Leia and Luke Skywalker in the cult films – but they did not attend.

They should have invited Jake Lloyd. I bet you he'd have been available.

My friends David and Ola got married in Vegas and they spotted George Lucas. They asked him for a picture and he obliged. So they have a picv of themselves all gown and tuxed up with Lucas smiling on.

George was unsatisfied with the picture and promised to revisit it in 20 years "when the technology matches my vision."

Sad article. Funny, but sad.

What I don't get is this though:

"In a pun on the films' famous phrase, "may the force be with you", they chose Monday as the date for the service, so they could bill it as "May the 4th be with you". (May 4 was declared "Star Wars Day" by bedwetting fanboys in what I consider it an outrageous slur on Hispanic Americans.)"

What does this mean? What is a slur on Hispanic Americans? I don't see anything here that would imply any racial or ethnic offense.

Oh, and nice comments, Civ. happy.gif

I don't think the writer, who slurs Star Wars fans with the term "bedwetting," understands what a slur is.

The Internet taught me that May 4 1978 is the date of the origin of the term "hispanic.". So I imagine that May 4 is attended by some manner of celebration (though no doubt it is overshadowed by Cinqo de Mayo). So if the two were related in any way, one might say that the slurred SW fans had co-opted the holiday. Making a further claim to injury is quite silly. But all that's only relevant anyway if the two are related in any way; I can't imagine any connection.

I don't feel like looking up the release date of the first SW movie. If that's May 4, then ok. If not, I don't know the origin of "Star Wars Day."

It's simply "Star Wars Day" because of that particular pun mentioned.

According to Wikipedia:
QUOTE
May 4 is called Star Wars Day because of a pun or play on words based on the similarity between "May the 4th be with you" and "May the force be with you", a phrase often spoken in the Star Wars movies.

http://en.wikipedia....i/Star_Wars_Day

The original Star Wars was released on May 25, 1977.

I added the comment about poor Hispanic Americans whose Cinqo de Mayo has been hijacked. The bedwetting part is a personal theory of mine that everyone at force.net wets the bed. A google of "force.net bedwetter" turned up 476 hits (including some that weren't mine!), including someone at force.net called "Darth Bed Wetter". I'm not making that up!
