I hated Tank Girl. It came out at the height of political correctness, in the era of Thelma and Louise, and it is just as tainted as that ridiculous travesty. There's a woman in there, a madam, who enslaves underage girls and sells them as sexual playthings for creepy men. Tank Girl and Jet Girl naturally don't like this so they punish her by making her put on a song and dance number. And there's a dude in it, who hits on Jet Girl, and is pushy even though she says no, but he never ever actually crosses the line and tries to force himself on her, because most guys don't do that. Jet Girl punishes him by shooting him dead.

I remember when I saw that in the theatre none of the girls in the audience (and no, I don't say women) seemed to think there was anything wrong with it. I remember someone even applauded.

That was a terrible time to be an observer of North American society, and Tank Girl was a product of that time. I am certain it has not aged well.

would you call the system of government of her tits was rocket titsalism? If so, I win. I believe that Tank Girl fully intended to off the Madam in some interesting and possibly tank related fashion, but was interupted when W&P burst in. I would hypothesize that she intended to use the madam as a hostage, escape with her, and then have her raped to death by the kangaroo men. Indeed, I am currently having Otal find me some fanfic involving just this occurence to be entered as evidence.

The dude did corner her in a shower and was only stopped by Tank Girl intervening. It is pretty well implied where that was going to go. He attempted to use his authority to coerce sex from her, which is like a degree of rape, or at least some manner of degredation. Let's keep in mind that the aviator guy was a lawful combatant for W&P and thus it was feasible under the laws of war to terminate him in combat whether he had been guilty of sortarape or not. The Madam on the other hand, was a civilian.

It is possible they intended to hold her and organize court procedings at a later date.

I think I remember this movie... err, no, not really. Only that there was a girl and she had a tank and thought she was punk. And freaked out about having a tank. And the rocket tits, after being reminded. And maybe I somehow remember said Jet Girl too... so...

Jm, yeah, maybe they intended stronger measures for the madam later, but that's not the point. The point isn't the intentions of the characters, but of the filmmakers. They figured having this big song and dance number was funny. That's bad enough.

That movie was ass.

Civ: True. You can even see wires on the kangaroos pretty blatantly in one of the big fight scenes, but I really like my ass sometimes. I would hold that a crappy movie that just goes out to have fun is far better than a serious movie that fails at this. Hence my forgiveness for films like Six String, Tank Girl, Buckaroo Banzai, or Wing Commander. And now that I think about it pretty much all the crap or borderline crap that I love is in the scifi genre, aside from Dusk Til Dawn.

I cannot at all defend the actions of the writers because I am not a movie boy. That was most definately a fuck up on their part. However, if you would like to continue to debate hypothetical tank girl related legal procedings, I am most enthusiastic about the concept.

Six string has good music; BB is good because its goofiness is consistent with an intentional tone; Wing Commander is genuinely bad because it clearly wanted to be serious and a blockbuster.

There's lots in the sub-genre of intentionally-silly sci fi that is great, but yeah, I don't feel like making a list of my own faves right now either.
