Sex trap for giant squid

"Because the animals are migrating into New Zealand waters to breed, they are very randy," the Auckland University of Technology researcher said.

"The freezer bag at home - to my wife's disgust - is actually full of giant squid gonad samples. We're going to grind all of this up, and we're going to have this puree coming out from the camera, squirting into the water.

"Hopefully the male giant squid, absolutely driven into a frenzy, is going to come up and try to mate with the camera.

"This is the dream - we're going to get this sensational footage of the giant squid trying to do obscene things with the camera."

"the Auckland University of Technology researcher" indeed. I think I've read some of the research by Professor Austin Powers.

there are some things in this world that just shouldn't be caught on camera. such as squid laying the moves on a video recorder device. if i saw that, i think cists would grow on my eyeballs.

I think it is because there is no documented video of living giant squid.
Only dead ones.

Yeah, you would think that by the year 2003 we would have some.

Well good luck to them I say. Of course they had best be careful they don't run into the slightly more dangerous and even less know... Colossal Squid. If this baby gets a hold of their camera then it's good night Irene

"This is a very aggressive animal and moves quickly. If you fell in the water next to it you would be in big trouble," said Bolstad.

Okay, my newly-inaugerated number-one fear is accidentally falling into the ocean beside a colossal squid and its glowing, dinner-plate sized eyes and its 13m long tentacles with their 360-degree-rotation-capable hooks. Of course, if I fell into the water to a depth of 800m, then the squid is only one of a host of worries.

Also, I bet the footage of a squid humping the camera won't be nearly as lascivious as I am hoping, because really? What is there to see?

I'm beginning to doubt it is really for science. I believe these academics have found a sure fire way to suppliment their drinking budgets. Drop in a proposal for some innane research project, get a few grand, booze up for a couple of months and then write a nonsense paper about something you dreamed up during one of the drinking games.
