I know some of you (ie: Laura and Chefelf) have some paid set ups that are, you know, much better, but does anyone have a free weblog? I have a LiveJournal that helps to keep me busy, but I've also used Blogger, 22blog, and Tripod in the past. Just curious, because reading blogs keeps me sane sometimes.

I don't know much about creating blogs... but this is useful for reading:

Its from Nick Denton the creator of my favorite blog, gizmodo.

I've found that just wandering aimlessles in Livejournal is good enough... I mean, there is a big community and everything, right? And you can also search by 'interest' that also help you make decent discussion...

If you don't have a website then use blogger, blogspot or livejournal or what have you. If you have your own hosted site then try installing your own software so you can run the blog off of your site.

I've tried searching. Most of my interests lead to stupid angst-ridden teens who don't realize that if they have internet access, then their home life is NOT that bad. Your parents didn't ground you because they hate you, they grounded you because you did something stupid. Stupid.
Anyway, do you use blogging software, Nate? I might just set up something like that in the near future for when I get switched over to the non-free set up.

I find that Blogger is quite enough to make a decent website, while being simple enough for me to use (I can do raw HTML, I just can't be arsed to pay for webspace, and don't start me on frames...) and shiny enough for people to think I know what I'm doing...

Yours actually looks half-decent for a Blogger set up. Most of what I see on there is just "take a template and go" type stuff.
Upon leafing through (for the first time, I might add) I noticed that you were still waiting for a word from Keenspace. Don't hold your breath. I've sent every comic I've tried to start to them, and have yet to ever hear back.

I've used a few things in the past.

Movable Type
http://www.movabletype.org/
Not a big fan. It's CGI based which makes it kinda a pain to set up and also it just seems that MT wants to look like MT... not customizeable enough for my liking. I just dont' like the cookie cutter format but it's -- beyond question -- the most popular blogging software out there and worth looking into.

Greymatter
http://www.noahgrey.com/greysoft/
Again, CGI/Perl based. Kinda a pain to set up but much more customizeable than MT. I used this for a while. Laura uses this on her site as well. It's pretty cool.

b2
http://cafelog.com/
Pretty cool PHP based blogging software. Jen uses this on her blog. I like it though it's a little buggy, partially succeptable to spam apparently, and not super pretty outside of IE. It has some nice XML, newsfeeding options built in.

w.bloggar
http://www.wbloggar.com/
An interesting site worth checking out on this subject. smile.gif

Currently I'm using IPDynamic Lite to run my "blog". This is merely an extension of the Invision Power Board forum software I use. This was the best way I could figure out to integrate my blog post/comments into the forum.

Hope that information helps. smile.gif

I agree 100% with Chefelf's analysis of MT vs GM. You can always tell a Movable Type site by their wide-spaced fonts, underlined dates, little calendars and wordy "Currently Reading" lists and what have you on the sidebar. However, I have never had a problem customizing GM completely to my liking. Any lameness in my site design is due to the limitations of my imagination, not my blogging software. I actually found GM easier to set up than other softwares I've tried, too.

I'm not getting paid by the GM people or nothin (it's free). I just like it.

I also have a livejournal account which I use primarily for commenting on other people's livejournals. I find LJ pretty easy to use, and if you have lots of friends with LJs, it's neat to keep up with them on your friends page. The rest of the "community," you can ignore.

Thanx. Mine was just a simple template setup, but I didn't like the colours (an explosion in a greenhouse), so I got out a hex colour reading website and made it black. Yummy. Plus, knowing some HTML does make it better than most of the pre-pubescents going "life sux!!!!11"

And Keenspace have got back to me at last, but I need to work out how to upload comics, and all that clever doo-hicky...
