Recently, I've got interesting in the indies and supporting these small time loners for me makes me feel good about myself, other than wasting some spare change. I found indie games to be surprisingly worth my money since most of them stick

Here are a few I've bought/downloaded recently:

The Graveyard:
The Idea of a taking control of an old lady while she sloooowly walks towards a bench on the othe side of a graveyard, sit and leaves the graveyard may sound rediculous to your average gaymer. The Demo (or "trial") version includes a section where a song plays about the old lady and all her close friends and relatives (who are all dead), much like a music video. Buying the game, however, lets you witness the old lady die at any random moment in the game.

Seriously, who wouldn't want to pay money to watch an old lady die? I WOULD and so should you!
It made me qestion the whole idea about death. I don't think about death much, but this made me search deep down to realise how I really feel about death.

Merchants Of Brooklyn (M.O.B.):
I bought this for the same reasons I bought Painkiller. Its fun, funny and lots of bloody cartoon violence.
If cage fighting neadrethals (Wikipedia has the info), Italian Mobsters with hovering Cadillacs doing drive-bys, Futuristic tommy guns, a mechanical hand that shift into different energy weapons other than fists, comic book style art, modern and futuristic themes, the ability to turn any object into a grenade and half-naked chaingun wielding DJs do not sound plausible to you, I don't know what else would.
And the game is on Cryengine2. You should think about buying a new PC by the time you see those letters, because that translates to "Rape" in computing terms. Low FPSs are unavoidable.

However, Paleo Ent, being the small group of devos they are, they decided to persue an extreme sort of marketing for their first release:
1. Release game on Steam
2. Make thousands
3. "Accidently" release the alpha version
4. Promise patches on the first day
5. Get sympathy from public
6. Fire someone the next day
7. ????
8. MEGA PROFIT!!!

Yes, this is their first game.
It runs Okay on my computer, by the way...actually, I might need a now PC.

The Path:
I'm pretty much speechless. Seriously, for once, I got nothing to say.
http://www.rockpaper...th-impressions/

I never had so much extreme emotion from a game before. Praise worthy, note worthy and worth buying.
This is how horror should be like. No closets, no zombies and no monsters. Plain mind fuckery.

[sarcasm]If you don't buy this game, you're a cunt![/sarcasm]

Thats it for now. Anyone interested in indie games?

BTW: Excuze my broken engirlish.

I love indie games as it goes. There's a really cool series of four point and click adventure games made in AGS that you guys might like. They're about this cat burglar and... Shit, you probably do know them.

The Vaccum is one of my favourite indie games I've played recently. It's a murder mystery set on a spaceship, but before you go "OMG 7DAS" There's no supernatural forces involved at all. There's also about a squillion different endings, and a seperate subplot that explains the main plot further and influences your endings just as much as your interactions with the others.

Other than that, there's the usuals: Knytt, Cave Story, etc.

I generally like the games from Spiderweb. http://www.spidweb.com/

I got started on Exile 3 which was, and is, great. The previous games in the series were too primitive for me, though. The graphics and interface in Exile 3 was very basic, but functional, but previously it was too basic, which got in the way of gameplay. Exile 4 was more or less the same, except with user designed scenarios, some of which were really, really good. I know Yahtzee has had some things to say about user designed bits, and I'd agree, but they really work in this case. Though, it does help that Spiderweb picked out the best ones and stuck them on their site.

The remake of the series...not so good. Instead of the nice 2D graphics of Exile, they went for very shoddy 3D graphics in an attempt to look more high tech, which utterly failed. They also tweaked the gameplay abit, making the interface less simple and fun to use. It did help that they were using the same stories as Exile had, which were very good, though, and they put a 5th and 6th game as well as the remakes of the original 4 Exile ones, so fans of continuity would be happy. A few tiny improvements were made between Avernum games, but those were annoying more than anything, adding some pointless new terrain features to places you've been already, when you chose a lizard character you have to use a lizard graphic, instead of it just being recommended and so on, which just illustrate the fact that they hadn't put those in beforehand.

Nethergate used the same game mechanics as Avernum, but gave you two different sides to choose from (Romans and Celts), which very different playing styles. It was also set in the real world, (though those bloody talking spiders are in there as well...they are only funny when used well, which they weren't here, being plonked taken from Exile and stuck into real mythology). Being set more or less in our world helped, I think.

The Geneforge games I liked...the idea of a world where magic is more or less about creating and mutating living things for various roles is an fairly novel one, and it was used well. Instead of having a party of PCs, you get one person (you) and you create monsters to follow you around and fight for you.

The Geneforce should be on steam. They can make good use of the direct download service and updating would be hella easier. No, seriously, they look pretty sexy.

The Path looks great, except it probably wouldn't run on my damn crap computer since the video card is Nvidia negative 5 or something. Oh and the Vaccum looks EXACTLY like 7DAS but without a dude in a welding mask.

Sure, enjoy your experience in The Graveyard. Maybe your old person will die after walking around doing nothing for a while. If you paid $5.

And hooray for The Path. Rapists/Fairy Tale fans needed their own game.

Tale of Tales might be the worst indie game developer ever.

My, aren't you negative.

I know a little too much about indie games, because I play them when I should be working or something. Good developers of indie artsy games are Jesse Venbrux and Jason Rohrer. I've already said as much in the games forum here. All of their games are short and sweet, and just might leave an impression on you. If nothing else, check out Jason Rohrer's Passage.

There are a couple of platformers worth discussing, if games that are too obviously deep and artsy leave a bad taste in your mouth. Seiklus is pretty sweet. Minimal story, 8-bit music, no combat, just pure exploration. This game inspired Knytt.

At the other end of the spectrum, there's the frustratingly difficult An Untitled Story. I never finished this one, but basically you play as an egg in an alien world where no-one talks, and you have to figure out what's going on as you explore the world and shoot stuff.

Come on, it isn't as if I don't support indie games at all. I just don't support the terrible ones.

Chzo Mythos, Cave Story, Iji, Toribash, I Wanna Be The Guy, etc. are all excellent examples of entertaining entertainment that don't require you to:

1) Be a butt-sniffing deer with a human face and do absolutely nothing else

2) Do absolutely nothing until you die

3) Lead 6 little girls to their rape and murder in a thoroughly buggy environment

Good thing that the edit function still works even after universal breakdown.

Actually, once you hatch from the egg (you can do that early on but it's easy to overlook) you can talk to the other birds. I've finished the fuckmotherer on easy and there's no fucking way I'm ever going to try normal, I value my sanity (or what's left of it). Anyway, heist mode is pretty awesome if you can find some other retard who's willing to give it a try even after seeing the graphics.

Ok I just played Execution by Jesse Venbrux and now I feel like shit. Even though the game lasted 5 seconds, it was something... hmm, I'm starting to like these conceptually artsy indie games. Need MOAR!

Jumper 2, ugh. I hate the guy who made it, incidentally he made An Untitled Story. YoMamasMama.

He had an unlockable mode that abused you every time you died, and you die a lot.

This was unlockable. Like a reward.

"Well done on doing this hard task, you incredibly stupid bastard."
"What?"
"This is your reward, tard-nose."

It wasn't that harsh, but from then on I've chosen to avoid his works.
