Hey folks,

Remember Home of the Underdogs? After years of stagnation and numerous death-rattle-like technical hiccups, the site in its current form is truly no more.

I wanted to mention it here because Yahtzee did have a few hundred posts on the forums there back in the day, long before he became the deservedly famous Intarweb celebrity that he is today. Perhaps it even served as useful promotion for 5 Days a Stranger. Alas, I cannot recall much of what he posted, aside from this one curiously thrifty snack recipe involving tinned chocolate powder and buttered bread.

Oh wait, Yahtzee doesn't really come here very much either anymore, does he? Oh well.

The site was useless for a whole year, every link broken, really no point in going there, but, not a huge deal, tons of other sites out there doing this same shit.

That's a shame. I loved that site. While it hasn't been particularly active for a while it was a pioneering force in this area. I got many a great abandoned game from that site.

Ah, you bunch of wet blankets didn't think the files weren't mirrored or backed up in some form did you? HOTU is dead, long live its replacement.

I haven't really used HOTU after abandonia.com came into existence so it's not a particularly painful loss for me.

If there's one thing nice about HotU, it's that the reviews were generally accurate and well-written.

Abandonia reviews are crap and don't reflect the actual quality of the game.

I was never interested in the reviews, because I always knew the game I wanted to download.

Well you used HOTU for different reasons. Most people lamenting its loss are those who enjoyed its popularisation and documentation of obscure games that would otherwise have been lost to history.
