For goodness' sake, Thief is not cyberpunk, there are no cybers or punks. It is set in a Middle Ages city where technology and magic uneasily co-exist. Hence street lanterns powered by mystic sprites, and gold-plated security cameras that hiss steam, and 'moss arrows' that... spread moss everywhere. It's just a device so the developers could have modern stealth elements like flashbangs in a period setting.

Alright, lets just call it science fiction for the argument's sake. Threads around here are usually left discontinued or just concluded very easily.

I never liked William Gibson anyway.

Wasn't steampunk a little more Victorian?

So... are we talking before steam?
What would we call that?

And anyway, it's clearly medieval fantasy, so science fiction can't have a claim here. There is no technology, it's all magic.

There's a multitude of subgenres, obviously. Thing just is, Cyberpunk is mainly futuristic and focused on severely dystopian societies, whereas Steampunk indeed used to be primarily Victorian, but now also includes all sorts of shenanigans reaching from Swingpunk to Glowpunk, Clockpunk, Mythpunk and Whatever-You-Can-Think-Of-Punk, all commonly narrowed down to a specific base technology.

Edit: Hang on, forgot to include the geek emoticon somewhere. geek.gif There we go.
